NOTICE OF CANCELLATION After consultation with Middleton, Kingston, Lawrencetown Lions clubs and the Community of Port George Recreation it is agreed that we cancel the 2021 Port George Country Jamboree. Covid-19 and the variants associated with Covid-19 are the reason for cancellation.... We must respect the safety of our Volunteers approximately 240 to operate the Jamboree and the attendees of such an event with some 2500 + in attendance. The vaccine/s is expected to be available to all Nova Scotians by September but that is only a projection. Sources have indicated that we could be another 2 years away from being safe from Covid-19 and or Variants of the disease. The message to cancel the event will be posted on the Port George Country Jamboree website, Facebook and other forms of media. We trust that everyone will be safe and well. Kindest Regards, Lion Bob Lyle PGCJ 2021 Chairman

Kingston Lions Sponsor Peace Poster Contest 2019 The Kingston Lions Club had the pleasure of sponsoring the 2019 Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest in the Kingston/Greenwood area. Children in Grade 6 from our local schools were invited to participate and design a poster expressing their interpretation of this year’s theme, Journey to Peace. The annual contest is an opportunity for Lions clubs to work with youth in our community to stress the importance of peace, to...lerance and international understanding. The contest encourages young people to think about peace, creatively express what it means to them and to share their own unique visions with the world. Winning posters at the Club level advance to the District for judging. Should a poster continue to win and advance through the Multiple District, it will be sent to Lions International Headquarters to compete against other winning posters from around the world to determine an International Grand Prize Winner. This year, Pine Ridge Middle School in Kingston participated. Judging of the posters took place on November 5th at the Lions Hall with a panel of judges, selected from the community who were hard-pressed to select winning entries due to the quality of the posters. The winning poster selected from Pine Ridge Middle School was designed by Gilliane. We would like to thank the Greenwood Dairy Queen, Greenwood Subway, Greenwood Mary Browns Chicken and the 14 Wing Greenwood Bowling Centre for donating additional prizes for the four finalists from each school . The 1st Place poster now moves on to compete at the Lions District N2 level competition. Congrats to the winner and thanks to all the students who participated. Great Job!! Valley Lions Radio Bingo Pictured here is Kingston Lions Bingo Chair, Dave Richardson, presenting a cheque for $10,100 to Janet Bezanson of Greenwood. Janet won the Cookie Jar at the Valley Lions Radio Bingo on July 6th. She shared the Cookie Jar win with one other player in the area. Congratulations, Janet! At bingo, the Cookie Jar number is drawn each week prior to the games beginning and if you get a bingo with that number that evening, you have a Cookie Jar win.... Janet purchased her Valley Lions Radio Bingo cards at Greenwood’s Ultramar station. For information on the Valley Lions Radio Bingo each Monday evening from 7-8pm, please visit www.coldbrooklions.com/valley-lions-radio-bingo

Well, the Kingston Lions were at it again for the 27th time! All Lions’ hands were on deck at the Kingston Lions Hall very early on Dec 24th 2019 while most people still had visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. The Lions were busy preparing their Annual Christmas Eve Breakfast for close to 900 community members - and they do it so well. Preparations for the full breakfast of ham, sausages, scrambled eggs, pancakes, hash browns, muffins, toast, etc began weeks befo...re the doors opened at 6:30am and cleanup continued long past the time when everyone left with memories of a wonderful Christmas breakfast with friends and family. Typically, the early risers are the ones heading off to work and they start their day with a good breakfast, and they are followed by families and friends who have made this a tradition to meet for a meal that morning before they go and finish their Christmas errands. Certainly, the star of the breakfast was the man in red himself, Santa, accompanied by his elf and Mrs Claus who mingled with the crowd. It presented one last opportunity for the kids to see Santa and receive a goodie bag. This year, the Greenwood Sobeys partnered once again with the Kingston Lions to provide assistance with the cost of the food. The Honourable Leo Glavine and 14 Wing Greenwood Commander Brendan Cook and his family were put to work on the serving table. Add to that a number of Scouts helping on the floor and the Lions themselves and you come up with over 80 volunteers who made this event happen. This breakfast is a way for the Kingston Lions Club to thank the community and to give something back to them for their support and loyalty over the year. The breakfast is a free will offering and the funds received just turn around and go back out to local charities.
