Eight week intro to fencing finishes in Lansdowne (1000 Islands area). Despite challenges presented to fencing in the area by COVID-19 restrictions six dedicated kids, including a teenager, learned the basics of fencing with much enthusiasm. The last class ended with a mini tournament in this still covid green area. Our club in Kingston, having been green sanctioned for a very long time, was recently moved to a yellow level. Keeping in mind covid restrictions fencers train w...ith a number of training aids including the unforgiving Coach Larry Armstrong, a mechanical fencing arm made of a cattle oiler and a car front spring. A cautious, but successful, reopening of the Kingston Fencing Club took place this past Saturday with a 2.5 hour morning session for comp fencers and a 1.5 hour kids novice class in the afternoon. An intermediate and adult 2 hour class will start on Wednesday September 9th from 6.00 to 8.00 pm. Kudos go out to all of the participants who used hand sanitizer, signed the participant list and wore masks throughout the entire class time without having to be told. Well done everyo...ne especially the young kids. The club will run month to month until November with the sincere hope that we will not be hit by a second wave of COVID-19. Fall Session Update Our Wednesday class which was to start September 2nd will now start on September 9th as many club members are on holidays. The class will coincide with the start of school, and will run for four weeks if there are are sufficient students. Saturday's Competitive and kids novice class will start September 5th and will also run for four weeks. After four weeks the Club will reassess continuing in October if we are not hit by another wave of COVID-19. Coach Henk

Fall Fencing Session The Kingston Fencing Club will cautiously open its doors to a few more classes starting the first week in September. A pre-teen, intermediate and adult class will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6.00 to 8.00 pm, depending on numbers. A Saturday intermediate to competitive class will be held from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm. A kids novice class will be held on Saturdays from 1.00 pm to 2.30 pm. Class sizes will be restricted as we follow the Return to Play pr...otocol. For September and October the classes will be run on a monthly basis, with fees prorated as such, with the hope that Kingston and surrounding area will continue to remain COVID-19 free and after we determine that the return to school will not have an effect on our programs. Kingston Fencing Club to offer Saturday training sessions in August Encouraged by the number of fencers participating in the five week training session in July the Club will offer four-2.5 hour training sessions in the month of August. The sessions will start on August 8th and will finish on August 29. We are accepting 10 to 12 students for these training sessions as determined by the confines of our physical location. Complying with government regulations a non fencing facem...ask is required to be worn inside at all times while maintaining acceptable social distancing to help fight the spread of Covid-19. Personal fencing equipment is required although club equipment can be issued for the duration for a small fee. The cost is $285.00 which includes HST. Kingston Fencing Club opens its doors After what seems to feel like a very long break the doors to the Kingston Fencing club opened up to strict regulations under Phase Three. With a limited number of students as determined by the salle dimensions our first Saturday practice was spent with static conditioning , light foot work and hand drills against a very accommodating Coach Larry mannequin. Kudos go out to the eight participants who took the mandatory use of facemasks a...nd social distancing in good stride. We have two more Saturday practices and then we will re assess increasing the number of students and classes. It is hoped that we may return to sparring in the not too distant future . Coach Henk

Kingston Fencing Club to Reopen The Kingston Fencing Club will reopen its doors cautiously on Wednesday August 8th from 6.00 to 8.00 pm. As mandated by our local health unit all participants must wear a washable or disposable face mask while inside the premises. We will have to assess the conditions on Wednesday as the temperature will be in the 30's and the salle is not AC supplied. There is room for two more students.... Many thanks go out to Junior Coach Hannah who helped me clean up the salle to meet current restrictions and guidelines. As per direction from our local health unit all club members must wear a facemask while inside of the club. No exceptions!!! Even veteran Coach Larry, seen in the accompanying photograph, got into the spirit and dressed himself in protective gear. His words " don't be a covidiot wear a facemask, and not just a fencing mask...." Coach Henk

Oskar Hagberg celebrating his graduation in style!

Yet another Club member has graduated into high School !! Congratulations go out to Club member Oskar Hagberg who graduated from Calvin Park Public School in the LEAP arts program. Virtual Graduation for Sloan and Seth Helpard On Monday night Club members Sloan and Seth Helpard graduated from Henderson Public School. It was a virtual graduation. Sloan won the Science Award while he and his brother Seth won both the Community Award and shared the Principal's Award for Overall Acheivement. Well done boys!!!
