Anyone else watch that Tidying Up show on Netflix?

I learned how to build guitars with Sergei, so seeing one of his early guitars come into the shop was a real treat. This guitar was built in 1976, not too long after Sergei was working with Jean Larrivee in Toronto. It's a 7 string classical, and after 42 years of making music it still sounded like a cathedral. The wear and tear of the years was showing on the frets though, so it was time for some loving maintenance.

Well, this is an SG that was accidentally underfoot. It was a pretty bad break without much glueing area and it had also been previously repaired (elsewhere). Just about everything you don't want to see. It was a tricky enough clamping job that I finally got around to building a permanent adjustable jig just for this type of job. It should make future repairs of this sort much smoother. Provided it doesn't get jumped on, it should be strong enough for a long and happy life back under string tension.

Tools are awesome until you need to move. The great migration begins this week. I've lost track of the total value of my tools, but I'm gunna ballpark the weight at about a metric ton. At least this time there are no stairs on the other side. A couple of workshop shots for posterity. It's been a good space, but I'm ready for the next step. #lifeaboveground
