The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of repentance. Because of the Savior’s Atonement, His gospel provides an invitation to keep changing, growing, and becom...ing more pure. It is a gospel of hope, of healing, and of progress. Thus, the gospel is a message of joy! Our spirits rejoice with every small step forward we take. President Russell M. Dear Friends, Reflecting upon the upcoming Easter celebration, I was impressed by the attached booklet about the Saviours invitation to change. It is about my journey. It is about your journey. It seems that we have all been personally challenged this past year by covid-19 and for many it has been a heavy burden that we have been forced to carry. Our choices have been truly limited in what we can do and it has been the cause of great frustration and angst amongst many. ... As I celebrate Easter, I can’t help but feel gratitude for Jesus Christ and the liberty He has paid for. His power is unique, as the only begotten of God the Father, to both raise himself from the dead, thus opening the door for all of us to live again; and, His atoning sacrifice, empowering Him to be our advocate with the Father. Because of Him, our burdens, frustration, angst, guilt, and pains either caused by ourselves or imposed upon us by others can be swept away. Peace and happiness can fill the gap and we can find greater freedom, hope and joy and the possibility of becoming an eternal family. I wish all of you joy in this special celebration of Easter as you ponder upon that which will bring you the most happiness and peace in our time. Yours truly, Mark Saigeon https://em.comeuntochrist.org/NTc4LVRUWC04NzQAAAF8GErCcp8Dk

As we are now many months into the COVID-19 pandemic, I thought I might share some of what I have learned. I have felt great sorrow about this pandemic. I have ...mourned with families who have lost loved ones. Many have lost jobs. Some have struggled to find adequate food and supplies. Graduation ceremonies, marriages, and funerals have been canceled or postponed or altered in some way. I feel great compassion for all who have suffered. At the same time, Wendy and I have learned so much. Even through clouds of sorrow, we have found some silver linings. Many families have re-enthroned their homes as sanctuaries of faith. Many better understand how important the family is and that it really is ordained of God, with an eternal destiny. We’ve also learned fear, isolation, and loss can be mitigated by immersing oneself in caring for other people. Countless healthcare professionals have risked their own lives to care for others. Farmers, pharmacists, truckers, grocers, and others have risked their own health to serve the urgent needs of others. Dear friends, the road ahead may be bumpy, but our destination is serene and secure. So, fasten your seatbelt, hang on through the bumps, and do what's right. Your reward will be eternal. In 1831 the Lord made a promise to his Saints. It still applies to each of us today: Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come (Doctrine and Covenants 68:6).

We are pleased to announce that meetinghouses in Ontario can now be used for religious purposes. The Brethren have NOT authorized sacrament meetings yet in Ontario meetinghouses (given how recently this changed), but are allowing small gatherings as follows: Youth Activities: In Ontario, an ordinary SOCIAL gathering (i.e. youth sports night) must be limited to 10 people. Places of worship may hold in-person religious gatherings of up to 30% of the building’s capacity. Right ...now 15 people in a youth activity for a SPIRITUAL gathering (i.e. youth fireside) are authorized, with social distancing & proper hand hygiene in place. Masks are recommended. Only one small youth gathering in a meetinghouse at a time. Baptisms, weddings and funerals are now permitted to be held in meetinghouses. The Ontario provincial guidelines limit to 30% building capacity and physical distancing must be practiced. However, the Brethren have only authorized much smaller gatherings for now. These should be discussed and unitedly approved with the District President and Area Seventy. As we look forward to the day when sacrament meetings are approved, an important part of safely returning to these meetings is to ensure proper cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting of our meetinghouses. More specific information will follow from your bishop/branch president as we slowly and cautiously prepare to phase back into our meetinghouses.

The other day a family friend asked my wife, Wendy, what it has been like to have the sacrament in our home. Wendy wrote the following in response: Knowing tha...t our dining table will become the sacrament table on Sunday, both of us take special care on Saturday to make sure our home is clean and tidy. My husband finds such JOY as he folds the laundry and vacuums. And I am happy to find joy in his joy! The highlight for me is hearing my husband bless the sacrament. I can feel how much he loves the Lord and how grateful he is for the Savior’s Atonement by how tenderly he pronounces each word. I can feel how sincere he is about the privilege he and I havein that sacred moment right in our hometo renew our baptismal covenants and to make a new covenant with God about how we will live the next week. I am moved to tears every time. Wendy and I have loved these special times together, but we have also missed partaking of the sacrament with the Saints. Just days ago, the First Presidency announced plans to authorize the resumption of our Sabbath meetings in a careful, phased manner. Sacrament meetings will slowly begin to be held, based on local restrictions. Some nations have escaped the pandemic so far. Others are experiencing a continuing increase. For them, a home-based Sabbath will be needed much longer. And I am especially concerned for those who desire to partake of the sacrament but do not have a worthy priesthood bearer in their home. They should let their bishop know that they would like to have his delegated representatives come to their home to administer the sacrament. If they wish to provide their own bread and water, based on their specific needs, they may do so. Partaking of the sacrament is a sacred and sanctifying privilege. Doing so makes it possible for us to draw more fully upon the Lord’s power. We wish for all who desire to partake of the sacrament to have that opportunity. I love you, my dear brothers and sisters, and I assure you that the Lord is watching over each of you.
