It's almost time. The sun is out, things are drying up. Before you start freshening things up outside, make sure your deck is clean and dry. It shouldn't have more than 15% moisture. You can use a moisture meter to check that or a couple of other tricks to tell if it is too wet to stain. Tape a piece of cling wrap down on a board and leave it for the afternoon. If it gets condensation under it, that is an indication that your deck is still too wet to stain. The heat fro...m the sun draws the moisture up and out. If you stain while that moisture is still present, it will cause peeling as the only way out is UP. The other way to check is simply to sit on your deck for about fifteen minutes; not in a chair, but on the boards. If you get up and your pants are damp, then your deck is too wet to stain. April 1, 2021 As you have probably heard, the province will be exercising another lock-down commencing Friday at midnight. As such, Kingston Paint will be reverting once again to telephone and online orders for curbside pick-up until at least the end of April. Our experience over the past year has shown us that this is the most efficient way for us to serve the largest number of customers with a quick turn around time for orders. It also allows you to view and order free colour chips. Over the winter we were able to add 95% of our inventory to our online store so you will find all of your favourite items. A selection of colour cards will be available at the front door and we will have our stain samples visible in our front windows. Colour decks will be available for purchase at a reduced price of $20. It wasn’t our usual Christmas and end of year celebration, but we fashioned a long table out of five gallon pails and sheets of drywall and voila. A nice dinner and Secret Santa gifts in the warehouse with my amazing staff. We’ve been masked so long we barely recognized each other! Seriously though, it has been a crazy year for everyone and my staff were rockstars through it all. We changed our entire way of doing business overnight and we never missed a beat. I can’t express how grateful and lucky I am to have such loyal, caring and incredible people working with me. You all make it seem a lot less like work and a lot more like just hanging out with good people everyday.

August 4, 2020 It’s time to move forward once again, and get as close to back to normal as possible. Starting Tuesday, August 4th, we will be allowing customers to enter the store. We have had a lot of time to figure out what way we think will be best in terms of wait times, managing both in-store customers and phone orders, and of course, the safety of our staff and you our customers.... To keep everyone from having to wait on the sidewalk in the hot sun, we will have on our sidewalk a take-a-number dispenser. If you would like to have an in-store shopping experience, please take a number and wait in your vehicle for us to display that number on the sign in our window. A staff member will then open the door for you to come in and the same staff member will take your order and help you with anything you need from start to finish. In-store you will find sanitizer at our entrance that must be used before entering the store. We have all of the arrows and directives in place that you have now become used to in other stores, and we have a plan in place to continue to serve our customers in a quick and efficient manner. We will still be taking phone orders for curbside pick-up, as well as phone orders placed from our parking lot. This will require a bit of juggling on our part so please have patience as we navigate yet another change in our service procedures. July 16, 2020 Covid Stage 3 Continuing Telephone Orders & Curbside Pick-up... Tomorrow marks the beginning of Stage 3 openings in our area and many other Ontario regions allowing more businesses and facilities to open under the guidelines presented by their health units. As you know, we at Kingston Paint have been very cautious since things unraveled in March. We are still operating with telephone orders and curbside pick-up. We will continue to do this for at least the next few weeks, possibly longer until which time I feel (and all of my staff feel) comfortable with opening our doors. I have to stress that our turn around time on orders continues to be about 15 minutes. (Custom colour matches do take longer). You can call and order from home, you can call and order from the parking lot, you can wear your mask and talk to one of our masked staff on the sidewalk while looking at our window displays. We will bring you colour chips to your car, we will bring you different paint brushes to the door so you can decide which one you’d like more. We are providing the same great knowledge and service that you’ve come to expect from us over the past 26 years, we’re just doing it a little differently right now. I thank all of our customers, both commercial and retail, who have taken time to call, email or text me to praise us for our response to these unprecedented circumstances. All of us are trying to figure out how to ease back into normal, please remember: Some people don’t agree with the unlocking, that’s ok-be kind. Some people are still planning to stay home, that’s ok-be kind. Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening, that’s ok-be kind. Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may not lose their business or their homes, that’s ok-be kind. Some are thankful they can finally have the surgery they have had put off, that’s ok-be kind. Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job, that’s ok-be kind. Some will wear masks for weeks, that’s ok-be kind. Some people will rush out to get their hair or nails done, that’s ok-be kind. The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings, and that’s ok-be kind. We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home-but be kind. If you need to go out, respect others when in public-and be kind. Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story, we all are in different mental states than we were months ago-be kind.
