Image: [redacted] performance co. logo and the words "CASTING CALL!" in burnt orange at the top of the page. Below is black text on white background that reads,... "We are casting non-union Indigenous and Black performers for an upcoming production in Katarowki/Kingston, ON. No experience encouraged! SYNOPSIS An Octoroon (2014) is an adaptation of Irish playwright Dion Boucicault’s The Octoroon (1859) using the same characters, plot, and most of the play’s dialogue to critique the racial dynamics, portrayals, and context of the original. The adaptation not only focuses on the drama itself but how the performative aesthetic reacts against the text, stage, and audience. Initially performed by white actors in black/redface, An Octoroon instead has a black actor play both the white hero and the white villainalong with other forms of race play (ie. an Indigenous actor in blackface and a white actor in redface). PROJECT INFO Contract dates are April 8- TBD June 2021 and performers will receive an honorarium of min. Dates subject to change in accordance with the KFLA Public Health COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. $100 before profit-sharing. Transportation may be provided. The play does contain heavy use of racist language/expression that will be continually approached with care in order to effectively convey the exaggerated and satirical nature of these portrayals. Our presentation aims to bridge the age gap in our arts community through theatrical education, reformation, and protest, and analyze the role of digital media/technology in creating colloquial representations of marginalized bodies. SUBMISSIONS Please submit your headshot and resume as a single PDF file to [email protected] with your name and RPC Submission in the subject line. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Successful applicants will be invited to audition over Zoom. We are accepting submissions until April 4th, 2021. [redacted] performance co. operates on unceded Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat territory, or so-called Kingston under the Crawford Purchase. We are a diverse collective of young multi-disciplinary creators at various stages in their development and exploration as artists and thinkers. Our team is passionate about curating anti-hierarchical modes of working, where the process of creation or production levels the playing field from the get go."

As an educator, producer, and performer, Terrance continues to find ways to bridge traditional and contemporary dance and music styles. The workshop includes: A video with instructions on how to make your hoops. Pow Wow Aerobics warm up (created by Terrance). The story of the hoop. History of the Hoop Dance. Explanation of the five background teachings. The Five stages of Life incorporated within the Hoop Dance. Working through movements as a group and in partners. Demonstration of Hoop Dance performance. [A photo of Terrance, a Cree, on the beach with water and the sky in the background. He gazes down and wears what is called an outfit or regalia with bright neon designs patterns to reflect the beautiful colourful flowers of the prairies and he has various hoops on his arms and legs. The design is of the full eagle ready to take its famous flight.]

"Luke and the Big Circles is a sweet finish to the unique programming of innovative and inter-disciplinary performance the festival has seen this year. Using simple means to tell a simple story, Dickens strips down the complexities and confusion of communication and focuses on the beauty of daily lifethe beauty of a bunch of strangers looking at the same sky, listening to the same voice, sharing the same story." Assistant Theatre Critic Stephanie Fung reflects on the compassion of 'Luke and the Big Circles' by Ned Dickens and the conclusion of The Kick & Push Festival!
