Kingsville Historical Park Museum This venue was one of the stops on the 2019 Kingsville Christmas House Tour. Tour guests were amazed at the quality and quantity of historical artifacts and memorabilia in this small museum. Most people had no idea this place was such a well-curated and organized gallery. During this week of Remembrance Day 2020, some of the photos from the tour can help us pay tribute to the men and women who served our country during war and peace time. The... museum has been temporarily closed because of COVID-19 but We will remember From the 2019 Kingsville Christmas House Tour: Entering the foyer of this well-known Kingsville landmark, one is taken back in history to the days when young men and women left their homes to serve their country in the Great Wars. The building of the Kingsville Historical Park Museum was the dream of several Legion members and Veterans. They wanted to show the sacrifices made by local members of the military, in a way that would give young people an opportunity to connect with them on a more personal level. In 1980, a transport trailer was refurbished and became known as the Mobile Museum. The museum visited many towns and festivals in Ontario, sometimes returning with interesting items. A search for a permanent home for the artifacts led members to use an old building once owned by the Conklin Lumber Co. It was converted into a museum, but after some time, the old building, showing its age, was finally condemned. Something had to be done to preserve the artifacts and continue the military research. On May 10, 1993, a letter of patent was signed by Charter Directors: Charles Campbell, David Clare, Fred Jarrold, Donald and Douglas Laird, Dorothy Martin, Frank Reneau, Brian Sanford, John Slater and Jean Walton. After a great fundraising effort, construction on an existing pole barn began in 1997, and it eventually developed into the present building. Many volunteers spent days, weeks and months working on the construction, and displays. On August 12, 2000, the doors were officially opened to the public. The displays currently show a variety of military items donated and curated by local volunteers. A secured weapons room has been constructed with all weapons meeting official display regulations. There are also historical artifacts from the Town of Kingsville, including police uniforms, as well a Heritage Home display. The recently updated Library contains numerous volumes of research material that are available upon request. This includes several binders with information on local Veterans. The displays include items that might have been sent overseas for the troops during wartime. Volunteers past and present are proud of their accomplishments towards the development of the Museum and its grounds. Seasonal trims and décor in this facility were provided by the museum volunteers, The Canadian Tire Store of Leamington, and Kingsville IDA. See more
