The Kingsway Conservatory of Music 02.05.2021

It's an extremely stressful time right now for so many of us. The KCM Junior Orchestra has a message for you.... We hope their rendition of Bobby McFerrin's tune "Don't Worry Be Happy," directed by Rezan Onen-Lapointe, will pick up your spirits into the long weekend! In addition to having a lot of fun making this video, the students learned a LOT of new skills, including aspects of pop music arranging, reading lead sheets, and creating their own rhythms and harmonies. We pr...obably never would have tackled something like this without the need for online learning! Enjoy! #inspiredlearning #onlinelearning #dontworrybehappy #uplifting #funtimes #onlinemusic #strings #violin #cello #orchestra #popmusic #positivevibes

KCM’s Artistic Director Sharon Burlacoff has been featured by @snapdbloorwest ! Thank you so much, this recognition means a lot. Posted @withregram @snapdbloorwest In honour of International Women's Day, snapd would like to introduce Sharon Burlacoff, Founder & Artistic Director, @kingswayconservatory In this 25th anniversary season of the Kingsway Conservatory of Music, founder Sharon Burlacoff discloses that she did not aspire to establish or become the Artistic Directo...r of a music conservatory! But reflecting on the past 25 years in her various roles at KCM, from educator to chief cook and bottle washer, she could not envision a pursuit that is more aligned with her creative ambitions, passion for working with children and families, and her belief that music education is an absolutely critical piece of the education puzzle. With these tenets, along with her exceptional drive and focus (qualities she draws upon for another of her passions, running marathons!), Sharon has built KCM into a revered resource for music education and a valued artistic hub for the community. Step into KCM's elegant spaces and you can feel the vibe - studios buzzing with private lessons on all instruments, Baby Music classes, Early Childhood Music programs, Suzuki Violin & Cello classes, Speech Arts, Choirs, Music Theatre, Orchestras, Drum Circles and a fantastic roster of Summer Camp opportunities. It's 25 years and counting of "Inspired Learning" at KCM, with an inspired leader at the helm! #ChooseToChallenge #IWD #InternationalWomensDay

Be sure to catch KCM instructor Rezan Onen-Lapointe in her newest concert with her ensemble, Rezonance! This time she and harpsichordist David Podgorski will bring you chamber music of the French Baroque. It will be a delightful and quirky concert, with an informal pre-concert chat as well as a Q&A session. The premiere is Saturday March 13, 7pm, and it is available online for one week after that. This time has inspired some incredibly creative and beautiful work. Check out this fanciful gem by Marco Cera. Not only did he play ALL the instruments and do all of the filming and video editing himself, but he also MADE the diorama that he is "playing" in. He crafted it and, an accomplished visual artist, painted all the details. Exquisite!

FREE TRIAL CLASS tomorrow! RSVP for zoom link You are invited to join Saturday Morning Music (birth to SK)! Dear Families,... I have had the privilege of teaching early childhood music programs to young children, and also teaching parents and children together in interactive classes, for 26 years. Learning how to actively engage in musical activities taps potential in every area of development verbal, aural, kinesthetic, social, emotional etc. You and your child are invited to join me for a free online trial class tomorrow, Saturday, February 6, 9:30-10:00 am (birth to 3 years, with parent) and 10:00-10:30 am (JK/SK, children attend on their own). If you are concerned how your young child will respond in the parent/child program (birth to 3 years), there is no need to worry. I am primarily teaching grown-ups how to musically play with their child through rhymes, songs, finger/toe plays and lullabies. If your child is intrigued enough to watch the screen ... the added bonus is that they will see their own reaction. RSVP directly to me, [email protected], and I will send you my classroom link for tomorrow morning. I look forward to having you join me! KCM’s Intermediate Orchestra would like to share their first project exploring world fiddle music. The first stop on their virtual tour will be the Shetland Islands! Orchestra director Valerie Gordon visited this magical place when she was in high school (look out for her pictures in this video!), and the music and close knit community inspired her to share this beautiful style with her students. The orchestra worked on learning this music partly by ear, adding harmonies a...nd multiple parts without written music, and playing with traditional trills and ornaments. We hope you enjoy this beautiful scenery from Shetland! #inspiredlearning #violin #cello #strings #onlinelearning #shetlands #fiddle #traditional #trad

Children NEED music!

The Kingsway Conservatory of Music 14.10.2020

NEW 9-week programs! Start Nov 23rd Early Childhood Music (age 3-7) at the Kingsway Conservatory of Music Message from Sharon Burlacoff, KCM Artistic Director:... As a music educator for the past 30 years, I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping music in the mix. Since our transition to online learning in the spring, we continue to discover the most effective ways to bring our Early Years programs to the Etobicoke community. For over 25 years, we have nurtured thousands of young minds through the language of music. Active participation in music is critical for their development in every area emotional, verbal, physical, social, kinesthetic, intellectual. Our Early Childhood Music classes which typically run the full academic year are being offered for the first time in shorter 9-week sessions. I invite your child to join us for the next session to discover the joy! Monday & Thursday AFTERNOONS, attend twice weekly! Our Intermediate Violin Technique class is getting SPOOKY! ‘Monsters’ is a project featuring students' own compositions. With guidance from instructor Valerie Gordon, each student invented a monster and composed a short piece of music in the "character" of their creation. They included specific extended violin techniques. As a group, they composed a beginning and an ending to the piece. You will notice that some Monsters have more of a traditional melody, while others are ve...ry moody and full of interesting effects. Special thanks to Cristina Prats-Costa for her amazing video editing skills! We hope you enjoy this Halloween treat! #inspiredlearning #violin #monster #halloween #composition #creativity #onlinelearning
