Although the province has announced that City of Kawartha Lakes status will be changed from green to yellow effective Monday, December 7th, it's important to no...te that the decision was made because of the areas surrounding us. Our residents have been diligently observing protocols and doing a great job, and our cases have not risen. We need to continue this excellent effort and not be discouraged. This message from Mayor Letham explains further. Message from Mayor Andy Letham "Good afternoon everyone, You may have heard that through the recent provincial announcement, Kawartha Lakes is moving from the green prevent level into the yellow protect level under the COVID-19 framework effective Monday, December 7. I want to tell you why and what that means for local residents and businesses. Surrounding areas are now seeing their cases rise, including locations within our own health unit district. In order to further protect our communities, the province is moving us up a level. This new level is mostly increased education and awareness, with a few extra restrictions. Such as In sports, fitness and recreational facilities, the capacity limits have gone from 50 people to 10 for those participating in classes indoors. Within fitness facilities, there must now be a three metre spacing between those using exercise equipment and or participating in a class. For restaurant and bar establishments, there is now a limit of 6 people that may be seated together at one time. Alcohol can only be severed until 11pm and the establishments must be closed at midnight. If you have further questions, full details outlining the COVID-19 Framework can be found online. I want to stress that we have done a good job keeping our community safe here in Kawartha Lakes and our current low numbers reflect that. We do not want to jeopardize the progress we’ve made it’s important that we continue to focus on things we can control and not worry over what others are doing. We need to continue to follow the protocols, you know what they are, you don’t need me to tell you again, and please stay safe. We will continue to keep you updated as we move into the holiday season. Thank you."
