Somehow, K Interiors has made the cut to stay open during lockdown number 3. While we’re eternally grateful to be able to keep our doors open, we realize there are so many small businesses (many that could operate safely) in our community who weren’t granted the same gift. So, for the month of April we will continue to share store updates & new arrivals, however we will also be showcasing some local businesses who had to close their doors. Show them some love! Their mission is to educate towards creating just and equal relationships of reconciliation and healing for all Canadians, to expand awareness of and access to the rich legacy of the contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and the world, and to make known the histories of Indigenous Peoples in Canada In July, we sold 25 candles! We were thrilled to receive these photos & a beautiful email from one of our customers earlier this week. We absolutely love helping you find that piece that will make your house a home Last February,I visited your store to get some inspiration for our cottage renovations. I saw 2 fabulous pieces but it was too early in the project to purchase them In June we were in the final stages of furnishing and decorating and we needed a "Wow " factor so I was thrilled to find the sam...e 2 pieces were still available. I am sure the store closure due to covid was the only reason they were still available !! We were at end of the Reno and the budget so I borrowed both pieces and took them to the cottage so my husband could see them....and... they were both so beautiful we kept the two of them They certainly added the "wow" and everyone comments on them. Irene and her daughter Ali trav...el worldwide to source their designs, with a particular focus on India. In love with Indias rich textile heritage and artisanal traditions, they love working with the artisans who hand make each item and bring their vision to life Indaba prides itself on sourcing and selling products that are rich in culture and hand-made by artisans from around the world. These artisians crafts have been perfected over generations and passed down through their families, and the techniques share a story of history and culture. The very opposite of mass produced, this slow craft method of creating values the detailed labour of hand weaving, block printing, glass blowing, and crafts alike

Rainy day thoughts #AmIRight

New @bacon_basketware in store now @ Port Elgin, Ontario

Sande Irwin is my friend and fellow traveller (one of my fav times in Nicaragua was spent w her and her family ). On her most recent trip to Guatemala, she brought back these beautiful textiles that are now available in the store. These textiles were purchased at cooperatives in San Juan La Laguna. One is called Ixoq Ajkeem and the other is Casa Flor Lxcaco (both have Facebook pages if you would like to learn more about them!). These coops are owned by the Ixoq Ajkeem, (mea...ning the women weavers" in Maya Tzutujil) themselves and allow them to receive fair, ethical pricing for their art. They have been making environmentally friendly, high quality textiles since 1993. These textiles were not recycled but made from cotton that was grown, harvested, naturally coloured and woven by the women. The Casa Flor tags on each textile will actually say how long the project took to make - be sure to check this out when you purchase! And as always all of the proceeds will be going back to the community within which they are created to help with service projects there!

These baskets were hand made in Uganda and are available at the store! 100% of proceeds from the baskets goes back to Dream Share Uganda, a Canadian non profit supporting performing arts and quality education in Uganda. I had the opportunity to participate in one of their service trips in 2019. I have seen the good that this amazing company can do and am thrilled to be able to continue supporting from Ontario. DreamShare Uganda strives to advance education by repairing and maintaining schools in Uganda defraying teachers salaries and providing them with teacher training. They work to advance the education of children in Uganda by providing schools with books, equipment, musical instruments other educational supplies and materials.

Weve been spending the past few weeks doing our research and educating ourselves behind the scenes. We are committed to standing with POC. We are committed to continuing our research, continuing our growth and helping in any way we can. Meet K Interiors Co-Owner, Susan Shular! Susan moved to Saugeen Shores from St. Thomas in 1981. Since then, she has lived in Port Elgin & Southampton. Not only is Susan a certified home stager, shes also a Real Estate Broker (her and her husband Brian own Sutton-Huron Shores real Estate downtown Port Elgin) and Registered Nurse (has worked with VON, Heritage Living Centres and has been with the Public Health unit since 1992), and a (pretty amazing, if we do say so ourselves) mother to Kaitlyn, Steven, and grandma to three puppies Jack, Will & Rosie. Opening K Interiors has given Susan a new perspective of the entrepreneurial world as well as an outlet for her social and creative personality. It has given her an opportunity to continue growing her design & decor skills while staying active within our beautiful community.

Another supplier we absolutely #LOVE in terms of giving back is @milkjarcandleco . These 10oz soy candles are hand poured in Calgary, Alberta. Not only do we love that theyre #Canadian and have no synthetic paraffin in their product, we also love that $1 from every candle sale goes toward a non-profit. They periodically change up which non-profit they feature, but it is always one to support children with disability. We have a brand new order of candles in the store!
