On retreat with Bill Gayner to learn Emotion Focused Mindfulness Therapy in August. It was a transformative time and I would highly recommend this way of learning. Bill is so kind and authentic. It makes no sense to say don't text or email in clinical practice. Went to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers annual conference yesterday and Faye Mishna - Dean of Faculty of Social Work at U of T said several times from her research that - that it makes no sense to say don't use these technology devices - it just drives the practice underground. Instead, we need to think about how to use them in ways that will be safe to us and the people we work with. Also, practicing in a way that helps us not become depleted as helpers. www.ocswssw.org

There is a lot of talk about being grounded. However, I have learned that in uncertain times, (which many experience) the ground is not there. There is a concept called groundlessness. Sometimes this is the helpful approach in the moment. We can practice with our fingers in the sky instead of frantically searching for our feet on the ground.
I want to know how you practice Mindfulness and Creativity. On Sunday October 20, my kind colleague and friend Lee Freedman is one of the organizers of Mindful Families and Friends Day. I am excited to tell everyone that my proposal has been accepted to teach 4 sessions on Mindfulness at the Bradford Public Library this fall. People were actually asking for this type of information. I feel so blessed to be able to connect with my new community and share how Mindfulness can have an impact on people's lives.
