Motherhood is truly the most challenging and rewarding adventure. I hope all the mothers out there know how loved and appreciated they are. I would like to thank my patients for the years of advice, pointers and support to help me prepare to finally be on this journey myself. I miss seeing you all and look forward to seeing you all soon (back to work in the fall)

Birth Story I am so glad to finally share my birth story with my clients because the support and guidance my husband and I received during my pregnancy helped not only prepare us for delivery but get us through some surprises along the way. The evening of Feb 16th I woke up with contractions coming every 5 -15 minutes for 3 hours. Now when I am talking about contractions I mean BACK LABOUR! During this time I did as the midwifes dictated and rested/went back to sleep. I fell...Continue reading

Tip #2- The pelvic floor squat. Holding onto something that is stable knees and feet facing forwards, spine in neutral. Take a deep breath in as you squat with the weight in your heels. Imagine the pelvic floor opening like a flower. Then exhale and bring yourself back to standing pushing through your heels and contracting your pelvic floor and zipping up through your abs. Repeat ten times a day. Why!? This movement teaches you how to relax the pelvic floor, prepare for labou...r positioning and strengthen the pelvic floor functionally. When? Until you reach 36 weeks of pregnancy. After 36 weeks we encourage this same exercise but with no contraction on the way up. Come see me at Moss postpartum house if you want to see how your pelvic floor is functioning during pregnancy and to help your prepare for labour and delivery. #yycmoms #yycmomstobe #yycpregnancy #mosspostpartumhouse #pospartum #pregnancypodcast #calgarymoms #calgarymomstobe #yycpostnatal #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy @ Moss Postpartum House

At this time of year, we realize that life gets busy with work, school activities and holiday gatherings. Let's talk prolapse! A prolapse is a shift of the bowel, uterus, urethra or bladder downwards into the vaginal canal. They are graded using a numbered score with three allowing you to see one of the organs coming out of your vaginal opening. A grade 1 or 2 prolapse can also be happening without your knowledge. Symptoms to be aware of are heaviness, pressure or feeling like something is in the way when you are sitting. All women after each pregnancy should be assessed for this and taught the exercises to support these internal organs. As pelvic therapists we are recommending you see us during your pregnancy to minimize your risk of developing pelvic organ prolapse. Check out www.mosspostpartum.com to book with a pelvic therapist to be assessed.

I had the privilege of being interviewed by today's parent magazine for the article " What it's like to have a fourth degree tear". The article outlines what you can do to decrease your risk of tearing prior to delivering your baby and tips on how to heal afterwards. Seeing a pelvic physio while pregnant to help you in preparation for your labour is a great addition to your prenatal health care! Come see me at Moss postpartum house or Momentum Health in Calgary for support before and after you have your baby https://www.todaysparent.com//what-its-like-to-have-a-4th/

From the continence foundation of Australia: Having strong pelvic floor muscles gives us control over the bladder and bowel. Weakened pelvic floor muscles mean the internal organs are not fully supported and you may have difficulty controlling the release of urine, faeces (poo) or flatus (wind). Common causes of a weakened pelvic floor include childbirth, obesity and the associated straining of chronic constipation. Pelvic floor exercises are designed to improve muscle tone ...and prevent the need for corrective surgery. If you fall into any of theses categories, book in with a pelvic health therapist today (403-239-6773)
