2016 was a year filled with dissonance. We'll see what 2017 brings us. But here's a thought: At least some of that dissonance is merely twisted love. If I love something enough, I can convince myself that I'm diametrically opposed to people who don't love it. Or they are to me. I can even feel like I'm serving what I love with my brashness, belligerence and caustic wit. This is instinct -- the lizard-brain. And we end up causing real damage, because the differences we tend to... exacerbate (eg different brands of the same basic product) tend to be petty, insignificant and not worth a fight. I believe we can do better. It's been said that the best way to learn to love anything (music, dance, people) is to watch someone else loving it. So let me flip this around: how are you showing your love?
Beginning of a new year, beginning of a new project. I'm starting a thing I'm calling YesLangley -- a celebration of my hometown. If you have suggestions for events I should cover, or people I should meet in 2017, I'm all ears! :-)

I like this podcast in general, but I love this one specifically. The time and space to create is a gift, and we do (or perhaps should) feel an appropriate responsibility to it. Also, why doesn't the reality of impending mortality push us to make better relational choices? Odd, is it not?
A movie in a single frame. A Halloween-themed family photo shoot led to this one in front of an abandoned building. I couldn't resist taking it a little further than my usual level of editing.
