Kitchener Ontario Stake 18.05.2021

Our final #volunteer feature to celebrate National Volunteer Week 2021 is in #Kitchener. Local members and full-time missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been volunteering with Food4Kids Waterloo Region for a few years now. Food4Kids in #WatReg work hard to provide food for kids in need for weekends and holidays. Volunteers help prepare and pack food that is then delivered to schools or homes (during lockdown). Food4Kids love their volunteers ...and volunteers love supporting the generous work of Food4Kids. Thank you to all Food4Kids WatReg volunteers who make life better for the community by sharing your time & resources to #JustServe. You inspire us! To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2021 today, we're going to feature a #volunteer opportunity on JustServe.org in #Kitchener. The full-time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that serve in Kitchener/Waterloo are volunteering at St. John's kitchen each week. St. John’s Kitchen is a gathering place for people in downtown Kitchener and is part of The Working Centre. Volunteers help to prepare a daily meal for vulnerable members of our community.... The Working Centre provides support and resources as well. To celebrate National Volunteer Week 2021 today, we're going to feature volunteers who are building new relationships by going out into the community to #JustServe. COVID-19 holidays have been extra special for Relief Society Sisters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Kitchener 2nd Ward. Several joined the local grassroots 519 Community Collective Volunteer Group (519CC) and became regular volunteers, including Ingrid Rehkoph, the Kit2nd #JustServe spec...ialist. The focus of this group (519CC) is to provide food and other necessities to our most vulnerable community members. Many thanks to these inspiring women for leading out & reaching out to #JustServe our fellow brothers and sisters in Kitchener/Waterloo. Special thanks to 519 Community Collective for all that you do for our community & welcoming volunteers to assist with this sacred ministry. You inspire us! Ingrid Rehkoph and her Mom, Sister Parronchi often volunteer together. Her Mom's goal is to provide healthy meals for 15 adults each month. Ingrid, her children and husband are uplifted during this pandemic as they regularly deliver food & "blessing bags" to those living in emergency shelters. Elaine Fischer and members of her family have found joy delivering Christmas hampers and have also collected personal care items for women living in emergency shelters. They regularly volunteer to provide deliveries, where needed. Leisha Nabrotzky and her family enjoyed putting together Easter baskets for community members in need and also donated a special Easter breakfast for a family in need. They regularly volunteer to support the work that 519 Community Collective organizes. #NVW2021 #KitStakeNews

The Kitchener Ontario Stake would like to #GiveThanks to the eight full-time missionaries that are serving full-time missions from our Stake. Eight missionaries are currently assigned throughout Canada and the United States. Several of these missionaries, who were originally assigned to international countries, received new assignments within Canada due to the #COVID19 pandemic. Full-time missionaries serve 18 months to 2 years. Missionaries from this area had assignments in ...Africa, Thailand, Australia, USA and Honduras. After spending time being quarantined, they quickly adapted to new assignments in new areas and continued their work. If missionaries are not locked down in their area, they have the opportunity to participate in up to 10 hours of #community #volunteer work each week of their mission, in addition to their teaching responsibilities. Pictured below is Sister Rachael Clement (with the black missionary tag), who was originally assigned to serve in the Thailand Bangkok mission and learned a Thai language. After returning to Canada to quarantine and spending a couple of months adjusting back to Canadian life, Sister Clement was assigned to continue her service in the Canada Vancouver Mission where she continues to teach people in the Thai language. This picture was taken when Kitchener Stake President Dave Thomas and his family visited their family members in British Columbia over the summer and had the privilege of touching base with Sister Clement. #KitStakeNews

Today the Kitchener Ontario Stake would like to thank the countless Medical Professionals & Essential Workers who have served our communities these last eight months. You have sacrificed your safety, increased your risk, have carried tremendous emotional burdens, & isolated yourself from family - all to fulfill your duties. We sincerely acknowledge, thank and salute you. #givethanks #publichealthheroes #healthcareheroes... #ontariopublichealthassociation #thankyouessentialworkers #KitStakeNews Pictures sourced from Shutterstock

The Kitchener Ontario Stake is grateful for the countless Teachers, Admin staff and Principals who are helping our kids learn during this global #COVID19 pandemic. Each act of kindness and hard work they put in really helps our kids to learn and keep striving to be curious, especially during a time of so much stress and confusion. Perhaps in twenty or thirty years from now, these kids will grow up to be parents or educators themselves and have to face similar challenges as w...e do now. No doubt they will recall with fondness and gratitude the examples from their teachers and realize they too can do hard things and rise to the occasion. #GiveThanks #Educators #Learning #Teachers #KitStakeNews Photo Credit: Unknown

We would like to #GiveThanks to the wonderful members that serve in the Kitchener Ontario Stake. The success of the Stake is in large measure because of the unpaid #volunteer ministry of its members. This lay ministry is one of the most defining characteristics of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the 10 wards and branches in the Kitchener Stake, members voluntarily participate in callings or assignments that provide meaningful opportunities to serve o...ne another. We read in the Bible from the Apostle Paul: But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary that the members should have the same care one for another (1 Corinthians 12:20-22, 25). To those that serve in the local ward/branch and Stake Relief Societies, Quorums, Young Women's, Young Men's, Sunday School and Primary organizations, and to all others who serve in various capacities in the Stake - we give our heart felt thanks. Through your #service you live Christ’s admonition that whosoever loses their life in service, the same shall save it (Luke 9:24). #GiveThanks #KitStakeNews

Have you noticed? Recently, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have appeared united in emphasizing the message of, well, unity. In the last two days, two of the Apostles have delivered talks profoundly promoting mutual love and understanding against a time of political, social and moral divisions. They have merely followed the trend of talks and announcements made by President Russell M. Nelson and other members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles o...ver the past couple of years. We often get clues about what the Lord's concerns are for the present day when we heed the words of His chosen servants. It is also often evident in the selection of articles on www.churchofjesuschrist.org. Today, for example, that's where you'll find a link to President Dallin H. Oaks recent talk on racism and the peace the Gospel can bring, another link to his conference talk on the Lord's teaching to "Love your enemies." and this excellent short article by an editor of The Friend on finding wisdom and godly inspiration from many different sources. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//you-dont-know-what-yo

Speaking remotely to attendees at the DallasFort Worth Summit for Religious Freedom from a recording studio on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Elder Ulisses Soares said, The concept of human dignity may vary from culture to culture, but it acts as a constant amid a volatile and changing world... Let’s not feel so threatened by a difference of opinion. Let us instead respect the sincerely held beliefs of our neighbors, and by doing so, you may find your own beliefs strengt...hened. ...We need to learn to both not give offense and not take offense... Human rights smooth out the imbalances of privilege, wealth, and opportunity. And those rights must be universally applied. Otherwise, justice becomes reduced to who is in power at the moment.
