Academic Cavalier - Phoenix Curtis This week’s Academic Cavalier is one of our KHS Grade 12 students, Phoenix Curtis! Phoenix is focussed, hard-working, diligent in pursuit of academics, creative, and artistic. She is an awesome teammate - she can be put in a group with anyone and things will get done (and not just by her).... In Biology, Mr. Sherbinin says that her notebook looks like an illustrated version of a Biology Text. Mrs. Venance describes her as creative in the kitchen. Last semester Mrs. Carter always looked forward to any creative project - written or artistic - because Phoenix always does her best work. In addition to all of this creativity, Phoenix does her classwork and it is done well. She works with the attitude that if it needs to be done, it needs to be done right. She is not scared to ask questions for clarification, if she needs it. Last semester she gave up a spare to take French 10/20 (a subject that she hasn’t done in school since Grade - she rocked it, ending up with one of the top marks in the class. To top it all off, she has a wicked sense of humor. While Phoenix has been nominated for Academic Cavalier, she also works hard as a Character Cavalier. She is a quiet leader who leads by example. She has been seen many times working on Great Grade Challenges. She did an amazing Nightmare Before Christmas door and had a hand in the Grade 12 Float last week. She is making the most of her last year at KHS! Keep up the excellent work, Phoenix! You make us proud to call you a KHS Cavalier!

Character Cavalier - Kadence Ball Being in grade 7 means that Kadence is one of our newer Cavaliers, however with her poise and confidence you would think this young lady has been here awhile. She is certainly a very deserving nominee who comes by this recognition honestly. Kadence has jumped into the KHS experience with both feet, joining leadership and being an integral member of the crew who continues to boost our school spirit. She helps to organize events and advertises ...them frequently on the morning announcements. She often looks out for others and is quick to help classmates when they are in need of a hand - all the while maintaining honour roll marks in all her classes. Some comments from teachers: She is very kind and helpful to friends. She’s awesome! She is very thorough, asks great questionsis a model student, really. Kadence has a positive attitude and is helpful and caring toward her classmates. She is always organized, enthusiastic and prepared. Kadence always tries her best! Most importantly, Kadence brightens your day with her enthusiasm, smile and kindness. Thank you for being a true ambassador of Kitscoty High School!

Staff Spotlight - Keith Parker Congrats to Keith on his retirement after 41 years with BTPS! We will miss having him here at KHS! Here is our Staff Spotlight write up by students at KHS!... Mr. Parker is a friendly face in the KHS hallways, he is always there to crack off a joke to the closest person around. You will often see him walking around the school pulling his cart filled with tools to the nearest task that needs to be done. Mr. Parker's attitude towards others sets a great example for how students should treat the people around them. He is always happy to be fixing all the problems in our building and he has kept it in great shape considering how old it is. Mr. Parker is always helping out people whenever he can, and this is why we are so grateful to have an amazing Cavalier like him in our building.

All BTPS busses, including in town, have been cancelled for this morning due to the weather and road conditions. A decision for the afternoon’s busses will happen by 10 AM. Academic Cavalier - Gabe Wennekamp Throughout the year, Gabe has demonstrated incredible drive and focus in his academic work. He works hard to add detail to his assignments and to ensure he has both depth and breadth in his understanding. Gabe is quick to connect content to things happening in the world right now and is always willing to share his connections with the class. His ability to think logically and extend his understanding to new situations allows him to achiev...e excellence in all of his courses. In addition, Gabe is a classmate that others can count on to take an active role in group discussions and collaborate meaningfully with others. He is respectful and community minded, contributing to a positive learning environment for all. According to KHS staff members Gabe can be described as: An efficient and precise worker, polite and respectful, innovative and creative and willing to take risks and try new things. Gabe acts with integrity and positive intention in all that he does. His contributions to the academic community of our school are significant and deserve recognition. Congratulations on being an outstanding Academic Cavalier!

World Down Syndrome day is recognized on March 21, 2021 At KHS, we will be showing our support by Rocking our Socks for Down syndrome on Friday, March 26th. We chose to slightly bump our celebration day so we could also recognize one of our new Cavaliers on his 13th birthday! ... Mark your calendars, Cavaliers, to Rock your Socks and wish Kysen a Happy Birthday on March 26th!

Reminder to Parents: If you are picking up your child after school, please do not enter our parking between 3:15 - 3:45pm as our school buses need to get through without extra traffic. Students can be picked up in the surrounding parking lots (Hall, Church, and Arena). Thank you!

Today we began bucket drumming in junior high music. It is super fun,... and also pretty loud. Please feel free to bring/send ear plugs to music class for the next couple of weeks if the volume is too much.
