My name is Iphigenia Kitwana, and I’m a mother of three beautiful and generous souls. Trained as an Aesthetician and Holistic Practitioner, I’ve made it my life's work to bring out the beauty in and give comfort to those I encounter. I wrote a memoir, "Maya Hope Kitwana - Breaking My Silence". I exposed my truth; showing from the inside out what was required for me to survive my childhood nightmares. My journey took me through rape, incest and abandonment, and my movement to...ward hope, healing, intimacy and love. I want to provide a lighthouse for others who have suffered abuse. Sadly many women and children in Saint Lucia are victims of abuse. They do not have the support or the resources that I received here in Canada to help end the cycle of my abuse. Unfortunately for these women and children, the instances for being marginalized and abused are high. There simply isn't the same level of support there. We feel compelled to help. Along with my childhood friend, Adriana Mary Joseph, we are raising funds for the "Kitwana & Joseph Centre for Empowerment and Healing" (KJCEH). Adriana & I have started the KJCEH, which will be a community-based healing centre in Saint Lucia. It will operate within an anti-oppression framework that works towards the abolition of sexual abuse and violence against women and their children. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive 24-hour shelter for abused women and their children. I had the opportunity here in Canada. But not all women who are abused have the opportunity to leave for Canada. Without this shelter most of the women and children will never break the cycle of abuse.
