Today's update! We are in the process of sending out the emails, promise!!! We had some delays earlier in the week and then ran into some database glitches that have now been fixed. Over the next two days the remainder of the results will be emailed to all of you. Monday we will also start notifying those who have been recommended to Provincials and those who have been awarded Trophies. Scholarships are next on our list and those results will be sent out later next week.... We are still on track to have the Highlights Reel on YouTube by the end of next week. We'll post the link here and send it out to our email list. Sorry about the delay - as they say...the best laid plans!
Hi everyone! The adjudications are just about done and we're working hard at putting all that info into the database. We should be able to start sending out the results later this week, including recommendations for Provincials and Trophies. Scholarships will be announced next week. The Adjudicators have said how wonderful the performances were and what a joy it was to be part of this year's Festival - thank you all! As promised, the updated program and the YouTube Highlig...hts Reel will both be available by the end of the month. Stay Tuned!
And now for something a little fun...

Festival Next Steps: Hi everyone - now that we have all the video links, we are busy matching them to your entries and getting all the paperwork and playlists ready for the Adjudicators. They will do their adjudications and recommendations the first two weeks of April. By the end of April, we will have notified all of the participants and posted the results in the program found on our homepage and also on the Trophy page and Scholarships page. Those recommended for Provinc...ials will also be notified at this time. By May 1st, all participants will also receive the links to the Highlights Reels - the playlists of the first place winners in each of the disciplines. These playlists are "public" and will be available until May 31st. **Note that when we inform participants that they have earned a 1st Place in their class, we will ask them if they give permission to have their video be made public. Only those who say 'yes' will be shown on these playlists. Many thanks to all of you! Enjoy this beautiful spring weather.

Kiwanis Music Festival - Some clarification re the Virtual Festival
A few days ago we asked the internet to stop misery scrolling for a moment, and to sing with us! Over 1000 people from 18 countries submitted a video of their p...erformance of Close To You (Burt Bacharach) in just TWO DAYS. Every submission that we successfully received was manually added to the collective. And then we saw the magic unfold Plug in those earphones and turn this up! We can’t adequately express in words what a gift your videos were to us. Each was like unwrapping a beautiful, personal, virtual hug. Thanks for trusting us with your voices, and for sharing your lives with us for a few minutes. We really hope the result gives you something to smile about. We’d love you to share it far and wide (please note, we won’t ask you to make it viral) Special thanks to Sleepy Mountain Films for this incredible edit. Until our next Couch Choir session Pub Choir
From Cara Gilbertson-Boese: Ottawa Voice Teachers...hi everyone! I hope you are all healthy and finding ways to teach online that are working for you! As president of NATS-NCR and as someone who has been using online teaching modules for the past several months I would like to offer you all a chance to explore ideas and techniques to not only turn your own studios into online studios, but to enhance the quality of lessons through online methods. I am tagging my fellow NATS me...mbers, as well as other voice teachers in the Ottawa area. It strikes me that one of the most amazing reasons that we have a thriving singing community is because of each and every one of you. I look forward to sharing a chance to connect and inspire one another. Please attend live if you are available. For those of you who cannot attend live, let me know if you would like the recording of the workshop to watch at your convenience! (PS...please forward to any other local voice teachers whom I haven't already tagged...thanks!) Let's meet on Zoom on Wednesday at 11:15am for 45-minutes. Click the following link. Cara Gilbertson is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Time: Mar 25, 2020 11:15 AM Montreal Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/904887867
Something to brighten our spirits...
A quick update - we're just about done rescheduling the Festival into May and will send out that info as we confirm it. Because of the short turnaround regarding the Provincials deadline (May 20) and a few other logistical issues, we are offering Music Theatre as a video-submission competition. Note that we are communicating directly with those teachers/participants about how this will work. Also - per the feedback we've received - we are offering our school-based ensembl...es (bands, orchestras and choirs) the choice of sending in video performances or holding live performances at the end of May. We're getting responses to this now and will update our website as details are confirmed. We appreciate your patience at this time. We are a very small organization with a ton of details to juggle - thank you all for your positive suggestions and support.

Kiwanis Music Festival - Response to spread of Coronavirus The Festival is monitoring the spread of the novel Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) within Ontario, as well as any directions issued by federal, provincial, and municipal public health authorities with respect to controlling its spread. At this time, authorities have not mandated cancellation of public gatherings within Ottawa. As such, the Festival plans to hold classes as normal. The Festival will be taking the followin...g measures: Hand sanitizer will be available for use by performers and audience members at our front of house tables. Piano keys will be wiped down with disinfectant after each performer or accompanist. We ask that you also do your part wash your hands, use proper sneezing and coughing etiquette, refrain from hugging or shaking hands with each other, and please stay home if you feel sick. Most important wash your hands! If we all act reasonably and responsibly we can ensure that this year’s Festival is a positive experience for everyone.
