We are in the thick of it, flu and virus season, that is. And it's ironic that I'm writing this post while sick with COVID. But just because I got sick, doesn't mean you have to . I slacked on some of my preventative measures, but I do believe/hope that my strong immune system will help me fight off this virus quickly! Media scares us with Covid numbers and reminds us about masks and vaccines daily, however they are not that great at helping us with tips on how to stren...gthen our immune system as another important way of Covid protection. There is lots of good info here, so please hit that and share/save this post! So, here is how to boost your immune system naturally during this high risk season: 1. DAILY boost your Vitamin C, D3 and Zinc levels. Like really up the numbers, especially C & D! Most of us are Vit D3 deficient and this nutrient plays a big role with Covid prevention and treatment. 2. Take Elderberry to put your immune system in the defense mode. 3. Chew on some raw garlic daily. If this thought is gross to you, add some crushed garlic to your salad dressings or to cooked soups (don't cook garlic). It's the best antiviral and antibacterial defense you can get. 4. Cut the sugar out or minimize it (this was my downfall ). Did you know that consuming even a bit of sugar lowers your immune system for up to 5 hours? I'm not talking about natural sugars, they are fine for our immunity. 5. Get over 8 hours of sleep . Tired body is not as good at protecting itself. 6. Hydrate and add some bone broth to your hydration sources. In the winter sometimes we feel less thirsty, so it's easy to miss the needed amount. 7. Get fresh air (aka go for a walk) and air your house daily. Open windows and let fresh air in and let the build up of carbon dioxide (along with build up of other toxins) out! 5-10 minutes a day is enough to refresh the air at home. 8. Use the following antiviral essential oils either via diffusing or topical application: thyme, cinnamon, rosemary, clove, tea tree, lemon balm, eucalyptus. Questions, suggestions, my friends? EXACTLY HOW YOU WANT Katelyn, the stunning bride, was just the sweetest to work with! She wanted a light and natural look that will make her beautiful eyes stand out (though they didn't need much help). She did some self-tanner before the wedding and so her skin was a bit darker than at her trial. So I chose her foundation colour to match her "new" skin tone, as this is usually the goal. However, after everybody's makeup was done and I was just making sure all look...ed perfect with last minute touch ups, she started wondering if her face is too dark. I could tell that she is not comfortable and even though her face tone matched her body tone, she didn't like it being that dark. So without a hesitation I redid her foundation to make it lighter, even though it's not an easy and quick fix. Because, as I told her and so many of my brides - "In the end, it doesn't matter what I think. It's your special day and you should be able to look EXACTLY HOW YOU WANT and even better, but definitely not questionable". I have heard so many stories of brides and bridesmaids, adjusting and re-doing their makeup after it was done for them by a professional artists, but they were either too shy to express it or the artists were too busy to take their feedback seriously. BACK TO MAGIC Wedding makeup magic that is! I'm smiling as I'm writing this because I'm so excited to do what I love so much - beautiful bridal makeup! I haven't done makeup on over 6 months, finishing my quarantine after our travel in a day and then woohoo, this weekend is packed with weddings and trials! I have been quiet over here my friends and it felt good to step away and dig deep into many areas of my life that felt a bit neglected in the last few years. EFFORTLESS MAKEUP Isn't it hard to find just the right makeup products? During my makeup lessons I see women use all the wrong products for them ALL THE TIME! I get it, it can be overwhelming even for me, a professional makeup artist, to go to Sephora and choose something that I will love using. At least I know what to look for in each product in terms of texture, color, consistency, ingredients, longevity etc. But for so many women it's just a guessing game. I have many cl...ients who buy makeup and then it's either sitting unused in the makeup bag or they try really hard to make it work. And I'm not ok with "making it work" when you can have just the right product that's effortless and easy to use and it will do exactly what you are hoping it to. For example today, during my Zoom makeup lesson, I asked my client how does she use her brow pomade. She told me that she has to be very careful as it gets too dark very quickly. In my mind that's not "effortless". I recommended a brow product that will be easier to use then a pomade (different brows need different products) and in perfect colour so that she can apply it confidently knowing that there is little chance of making a mistake. BEING PRESENT Being present is a big thing in my world and it's something that I strive for all the time. It can be quite elusive when I get wrapped up in my To-Do list, which happens quite often! But when I do get present - it's like sun is shining and my heart is singing and no matter what I'm doing I find joy. I think it is super important for a bride to be present as much as she can on her wedding day to truly experience the joy and love! It's so easy to stress ...over the little details, weather, other people's expectations, things going on-time, the list is literally endless. My biggest advice for brides is to start your day by taking time to yourself, slow down and allow yourself to relax and reflect. When you start your day right and set the right mindset intentionally, then the day is going to flow stress-free and even more meaningful.
