We are pleased to announce that yesterday we were able to start administering the first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to our staff and physicians. Follow...ing the provincial ethical framework, the vaccine roll-out at RMH will prioritize staff and physicians who are considered front line, in high risk clinical areas. It is anticipated that all highest priority staff and physicians will receive their first dose by the end of the week. The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has confirmed that the Hospital will receive enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine over the coming weeks, to complete both first and second doses for its entire team of more than 1,000 staff and physicians, as well as to support vaccinations for other high priority health care workers in the community. This marks an important milestone in the battle against COVID-19 a battle which our staff and physicians have been on the front lines of for a year now, says Kelly Isfan, RMH President and CEO. We can all sleep better knowing that our team is protected against this deadly virus, and we can continue to provide exceptional care to our community. We thank RMH for their work in vaccinating health care workers in our community, said Dr. Ian Gemmill, Acting Medical Officer of the Health with the HKPRDHU. The hospital and its staff have worked with the local public health agency throughout this pandemic, and they continue to help to prevent the spread of this virus to others by vaccinating their staff who are seeing and treating patients. With additional doses of the Pfizer vaccine being delivered locally, HKPRDHU is continuing to provide vaccine to the long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes to ensure that those staff are vaccinated. Once additional vaccine arrives in the community, HKPRDHU will continue to work with all of its health care partners to provide vaccine to more residents of the region as identified by the provincial priority list. The provincial government has announced the launching of a new provincial registration system that area residents, starting with people over the age of 80 years, will be able to use to book appointments for their vaccination. The system is expected to launch on March 15 and will include a phone-in option for those residents who do not have access to a computer. We are asking our residents to be patient for just a bit longer, Dr. Gemmill said, We are finalizing our clinic plans based on when we expect to receive more vaccine and the booking system will soon be coming online. Once those are in place, we will start to see those residents over the age of 80 years start to be vaccinated locally. Information regarding vaccines for next priority populations, and general public will be made available by HKPR Health Unit at https://www.hkpr.on.ca/.

KLHCI was very happy to host a Virtual Rural Community Education Afternoon yesterday for 40 UofT first and second year medical students! Traditionally, this event would be hosted in-person at the Ross Memorial Hospital however, like many events this past year, we were able to pivot to a virtual presentation. Many thanks go to our physician presenters: Dr. Koushik Krishnan and Dr. Satvir Sahans for their presentations on Rural ER Presentations and Treatments; and Dr. Dawn Reid and Dr. Naomi Nicholson for leading the suturing sessions. Special thanks go to the organizing committee of Emily Bryson and Sarah Hyett of UofT and Robyn McNabb and Cindy Snider of KLHCI.

To all our family medicine residents, Today we wish to celebrate you all during Resident Awareness week! Thank you all for everything you have given over the pa...st year while caring for your patients. It has been an unprecedented year and much has been asked of you during these uncertain times over the course of the pandemic. Our clinics and hospitals could not function as well without your dedication to patient care and your ability to adapt during your residency to the ever-changing educational delivery which has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. Although this has been a very challenging year that has been wrought with change for you all, it has been inspiring for us to watch how well you have all adapted and found ways to continue to be pillars for patient care and excel in your educational endeavours. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed and you are all very much appreciated! This week is dedicated to you, our residents, and we thank you for all that you do each day. Happy Resident Awareness Week! Dr. Julie Copeland, Postgraduate Director Dr. Daniel Grushka, Associate Postgraduate Director Dr. Kyle Carter, Enhanced Skills Director The FM PG Team

As this pandemic that we are all in changes, so does our way of working. KLHCI's Recruitment & Retention Coordinator has been working from home since mid-March. This week she returned to our office at the Ross Memorial Hospital and will be working from there on Mondays and Tuesdays. The rest of the week she will continue to work from home. The safety and health of KLHCI's one employee is paramount to the Board of Directors and we believe this is a good plan for now - we will see what the future brings!
