In 2016 KLS was awarded the demolition and earthworks for Parkade P1 at the Foothills Medical Centre. This contract included the construction of a new gravel/recycled asphalt parking lot and the earthworks for the Lot 8A upgrade. A highlight for the demolition was that 100% of the concrete material was recycled, crushed into clean gravel, and immediately repurposed on construction projects. KLS completes all projects with sustainability as a key goal and the Foothills Medical... Centre was an excellent proof point for environmentally responsible construction. Limiting our footprint is more than a good news story, it also saves clients money on materials by recycling and returning demolished and repurposed material back into the project. In celebration of #InternationalWomensDay we want to introduce you to some of the fierce females on the KLS team. Today we are shouting out our VP, Cori Peever and Project Manager, Arielle Bursey. These women excel at their jobs, build community within our team, and are inspiring to everyone they work with. Lets start with Cori, hailing from Northern Alberta she has been a #bossbabe for over 25 years. Everything she touches turns to gold, not because she is magic but because... she works hard, understands business and gets the job done. When Cori isnt working you can find her and her perfect swing on the links or working on a beautiful piece of art. She really is well-rounded. We stole Arielle from Quebec and wont be giving her back. She is currently the Project Manager for the 77th largest construction project in Canada and is the force behind its success. If there is a young woman in the construction industry looking for a role model, you have one in her. When Arielle isnt working, she is engineering octo-beer pong tables or leading her softball team to victory. We are lucky to have her breadth of skill on our team (and at our Christmas Parties)!

We have an awesome #TBT this week! This summer our crew was on site digging in Mission and noticed a little something peaking through the dirt. That little something turned out to be a prehistoric Buffalo skull! The folks from Drumheller even came by to pick it up. It was quite the find and speaks to some amazing history our city holds. KLS has arranged a memorial for Steve Hodgkinson on Saturday, August 18, beginning at 5:00pm. Donations will be accepted to the Steve Hodgkinson Memorial Trust, for the benefit of his daughter, Brooklyn. In lieu of hosting any food or beverages at the memorial, KLS will contribute to the trust.

It is with profound sadness that we inform you of the sudden passing of Steve Hodgkinson on Friday June 29th at the age of 37. The world has lost a great man and a beautiful soul, KLS will be holding a celebration of life and we will inform all of his friends and colleagues with the date, location and time.
