#novascotiastrong We remember those who were lost and those who risked their lives.
Baron Young, Senior Project Manager for NSPI, is moving from the Mersey file to a different region of Nova Scotia. Because of this, today was his last day as part of the Mersey Working Group discussions with the Mi'kmaw communities in that region. Baron has worked with NSP on the Mersey file for awhile and has worked closely with KMKNO’s team and the Mersey Working Group. We acknowledge Baron for the working relationship and respect he gave throughout his work with the Mi’kmaq.
We're trying a new time slot to see how we can best reach our audience! Join us live the afternoon of April 28th. If you can't make it, it will be recorded and posted at a later date!
Lots of talk in our communities about elver fishing. Here is the latest letter that we sent to DFO on this issue: https://mikmaqrights.com//2020-12-18-KMK-ltr-to-Jacinta-Be
As we mark Viola Robinson’s last day as Lead Negotiator with The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs and honour the incredible work she has done over the last 40+ years, we wanted to share a few of her inspiring words here. Thank-you for all you have done for our communities and the path you have forged for us all. Congratulations on your very well-deserved retirement!

A second release just issued by the Assembly:
This weekend marked the end of the Netukulimk Livelihood Fishery season for three of our communities - Potlotek, Eskasoni and Pictou Landing. As per their community's agreed upon plan - they fished according to the long-held traditional philosophy of Netukulimk and on December 13th, pulled their gear out of the water on the date set by their communities. While the initial season of exercising our Right to a Moderate Livelihood wasn't without some conflicts - overall, the h...arvesters here had a successful season and we are extremely proud of them, and all our community members who are out exercising their Treaty Rights. Thank you to those communities who invited KMK in to work alongside you as your community members honoured our ancestors, Donald Marshall Jr.'s fight, and our Mi'kmaw Treaty Rights. Wela'lioq! #mikmaq #livelihood #treatyrights See more
Media Release just issued by the Assembly:
We're very excited to see the panels from the Solar for Community Buildings Project being installed! We were happy that KMK and the Assembly were able to help facilitate these solar projects in many of our Mi'kmaw communities, and we're looking forward to more solar being installed across Mi'kma'ki soon!
KMKNO is so pleased to have been part of the process to bring this property to the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre. A 30-bed shelter, ten room shared housing use and seven one to two bedroom modular units is greatly needed by our urban population!
This posting closes today at 4pm! Looking for a Governance Team Project Manager!
