Creating custom pieces of jewelry with a client is so fun and rewarding, especially when a client comes in with an idea they weren’t sure would be completely doable. In this instance, the client came in with the idea to incorporate a leaf or petal shape. Instead of talking about the #uselection like everyone else, this #Canadian company is in the mood to talk about #Red stones and #Blue stones, I mean *cough cough* #Rubies and #Sapphires that are still looking for a forever home! The word #Ruby comes from ruber, which is Latin for red, likely because rubies are a pink to blood-red coloured gemstone, with just a slightly different mineral makeup from sapphires! Sapphires, a variety of the mineral corundum, comes in every ...colour imaginable, except red. The red colour of rubies occurs when a corundum mineral is coloured by chromium impurities. Sapphire colours are the result of iron, titanium, and chromium impurities. And as another fun tidbit, in ancient times, it was believed that sapphires protected their wearers from evil, perhaps that’s why the #Democrat party decided to go with blue. See more
