Thanks to generous donations from local individuals, organizations and businesses, The Klub has been able to make its rent payments for September, October, and November, ensuring that Rainbow Klub still has a safe space to meet for the immediate future. The Klub, operated by Koach Katrina, serves as a safer space for 2SLGBTQ+ youth. The space allows them to feel safe, be themselves, and find community. As an established nonprofit, The Klub will be able to expand its efforts to offer programming to more under-served groups in Sault Ste. Marie(Baawating). I've been supporting Rainbow Klub programming mainly myself with income from my fitness business. Because of the pandemic, I can no longer cover all the expenses on my own or focus on growing the other programming intended for the space", says Katrina. This led to Katrina and her team launching the #SaveOurSafeSpace campaign. The campaign is seeking 100 individuals and businesses to donate $25 monthly. This will help ensure the long-term sustainability of their space. The sponsors have given us hope that a community fund community centre is possible. Their belief in our mission and financial support will affect so many lives. Currently they have 33 monthly business/personal sponsors but still need more support to reach the goal of 100. A healthy and vibrant city needs to support and engage everyone in the community.
