Living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan means you never really know what the weather will look like day to day or even when you'll wake up one morning and there will be snow outside. I know nobody wants to hear the word winter at the end of August but its never to early to start saving up financially and planning ahead for your fall/winter plumbing maintenance. Here are three things we recommend you should do or consider doing when getting ready to winterize your plumbing properly...: First thing you should do when colder weather is approaching is to walk around the perimeter of your house. Make sure you don't see anything unusual like cracks in your pipes, issues with faucets and be sure to bring in all your outdoor hoses, etc. If you see any of these issues arise be sure to call us and get them fixed right away! Check carefully and see if you have leaks in your pipes and if you do get them fixed/repaired by the professionals here at Kolibab Mechanical to ensure it is done correctly before the temperature starts getting low enough to cause problems. If there is a weak spot in your pipes and the low temperature expands that pipe you could have a unwanted pipe burst which can be extremely inconvenient and financially stressful depending on the damage done. A pipe bursting can happen to anybody at any given moment so be sure you are prepared and know where your main water shut off valve is. Knowing where this valve is in an emergency situation will probably minimize the financial stress of all the damage done had you not known where it is. Also take into consideration if you are a snowbird and travel during the winter, leaving your house for extended periods of time, to turn off this valve to ensure you don't come home to a water leak. These are just a few tips and of course there are other tips that will help winterize your plumbing but these are just few important ones we recommend.
