Vitamin D - More evidence in demonstrating why I have said for years that Vitamin D is a vital and inexpensive way to improve your overall health. This study shows that Vitamin D levels are a reliable predictor of mens health and the aging process. See my video on this on our clinics YouTube channel linked in an earlier post on this page. https://medicalxpress.com//2020-09-vitamin-d-blood-future- #vitaminD #aging #wellness #hormones #health #newstudy #science

This is one of several studies now showing that optimal hormones levels in both men and women are important in reducing the risk of dying from #COVID19. Other studies have shown the same to be true for those with low Vitamin levels. #covidprevention https://www.healthing.ca//men-length-could-determine-covid

The Corona-19 virus pandemic is serious. We all need to make choices to keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our community safe. Follow the advice of officials and medical experts. Do not give in to rumours on the internet. Good decisions now will help reduce the impact of this virus on us all later. Just as important are the emotional challenges. It is natural to be afraid and anxious. What we can do is to summon our courage. Canadian society has come through difficult times ...before. We will come through this too. Choose to have courage. It may be something you have to do over and over but you can be strong through this. When we have faced uncertainties and risks before, one very Canadian response is compassion. May I EN-Courage you to have compassion for those who are struggling. Check in by phone or email with others who may be vulnerable. Take time to smile when you see someone in a store or while filling up your gas tank. Its a good time to be kind. Your acts of courage and compassion will help everyone get through this together - even as we are maintaining our social distance! Finally, let me give a special commendation to all those who are showing their courage and compassion by continuing their essential services. This is a time to honour our healthcare workers, our first-responders, those who keep our stores stocked and open, and the many unseen who keep our infrastructure working.

Update About Our Office During This Outbreak of Corona Virus : March 15, 2020 On the advice of the Ministry of Health we are changing our office protocols to ensure minimization of risk to our patients and our staff. Starting the week of March 16, 2020 we will try to change as many patients visits as we can to virtual electronic visits. Initially most will be by phone. There are some patients who have already made arrangements to come to the office and, if they do, we will s...ee them, once again minimizing risks by using frequent hand washing and minimized personal contact. For the majority of scheduled patients we will set up visits through OnCall Health. One of the problems with phone visits is that each person requires individualized attention and some visits unexpectedly may take longer than others. We will make every effort to keep on schedule but at times we may be delayed. Dr Lawrence Komer Medical Director The Komer Clinics

COVID-19 is placing stress on Canadas public health system. Our clinic is starting to offer virtual care to make sure that we can continue to care for our patients safely and effectively. This means that we will be using video and audio technologies for some patient visits rather than asking all patients to come into our office. Some of these technologies are provided by the Province. Others have been provided by vendors like Google, or Apple to help make discussions with yo...ur care provider as easy as possible during these difficult times. Some health concerns can be addressed with virtual care alone, but in some cases your doctor may ask you to visit a hospital or other health care facility if necessary, for a physical examination. We do our best to make sure that any information you give to us during virtual care visits is private and secure, but no video or audio tools are ever completely secure. There is an increased security risk that your health information may be intercepted or disclosed to third parties when using video or audio communications tools. To help us keep your information safe and secure, you can: Understand that emails, calls, or texts you receive are not secure in the same way as a private appointment in an exam room. Use a private computer/device (i.e., not an employers or third partys computer/device), secure accounts, and a secure internet connection. For example, using a personal and encrypted email account is more secure than an unencrypted email account, and your access to the Internet on your home network will generally be more secure than an open guest Wi-Fi connection. You should also understand that electronic communication is not a substitute for in-person communication or clinical examinations, where appropriate, or for attending the Emergency Department when needed (including for any urgent care that may be required). If you are concerned about using video or audio tools for virtual care, you can ask our office to arrange for you to visit a different healthcare provider or other health care center where you can be seen in person. However, please note that visiting a health care provider in person comes with a higher risk of coming into contact with COVID-19 and the possibility of spreading the virus. By providing your information, you agree to let us collect, use, or disclose your personal health information through video or audio communications (while following applicable privacy laws) in order to provide you with care. In particular, the following means of electronic communication may be used (identify all that apply): email, videoconferencing (including Skype, Facetime, etc.), text messaging (including instant messaging), website/portal, OnCall.

In 2015, Dr. and Mrs. Komer lost their daughter Kim to a long battle that began with a car accident when she was hit by a drunk driver. The brain injury was followed by an all too familiar path of changes in personality, addiction, depression, and ultimately, death. This tragedy was a motivation for Dr. Komers exploration of brain health. The remarkable treatments that he has developed come as an answer for other families facing a similar situation. In this short time since... her passing, so much is better understood about concussions, brain injuries, and PTSD. More can now be done to help people like Kim. Dr. and Mrs. Komer write about this loss in their book, "New Hope for Concussions, TBI & PTSD." The lyrics on the YouTube video below were written by Joan Chandler Komer and Scott Komer. The music was written and played by Scott Komer. The violin performed by Kate Unrau. Their son Scott wrote and performed this song as a tribute to his sister and as an expression of loss that families feel. We are grateful to be able to share it here with you. #braininjury #loss #grief #addiction #depression #PTSD https://youtu.be/NhT0xRwc3jo

Bell Lets Talk Lets Talk. I see a large number of women in my practice with depression. Many of them have been on antidepressants with no success. ... As a gynecologist, I am very aware of the relationship between depression and low levels of hormones and of some important natural products. I just searched Google Scholar which is a search engine looking at scientific papers. Between the years 2000 and 2018, I found the following results: Low estrogen and depression: 18,000 scientific papers Low progesterone and depression: 18,300 scientific papers Low thyroid and depression: 60,800 scientific papers Low vitamin D and depression: 100,000 scientific papers Low omega-3s: 50,700 scientific papers That is almost a quarter of a million papers that show this important link with depression. And yet every day in the office I see numerous women complaining of mood changes and none of these hormones nor have vitamin D levels have been checked. My first treatment is restoring optimal levels of these natural hormones as well as vitamin D and omega-3 oils and we had great success where often antidepressants have failed. Poor newspaper reporting has given hormones a bad name which is surprising since women make incredibly high levels of these hormones every month for the decades before menopause. We know that depression and anxiety triple in the menopause. There obviously is a role for hormone restoration to youthful levels as well as optimizing natural products such as vitamin D and Omegas to improve womens health and certainly their moods. #menopause #womenshealth #vitaminD #depression #hormones #Omega3 #Bell_LetsTalk
