Perhaps in response to the Zincton Development's go ahead to the next step in the proposal process, the folks behind the Wild Connection have teamed up with the... Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and started a petition. The idea is that any commercial development between Kaslo and New Denver (and many places elsewhere) should be halted until a proper land use plan has been developed. If you are keen to see public lands kept for the public, rather than commercialized and developed, consider signing the petition appearing here. There are already more than 1,000 signatures. I know having more backcountry access would be awesome , but why do we need more ?? Please sign. I enjoy hiking these mountains in the summer and winter and putting chair lifts and housing / stores would not be cool. For those who value recreating in the Kootenay’s backcountry, PLEASE SIGN!!!! There are fewer and fewer places to go as more and more of these PFLs (perfect f***ing spots) get a tenure slapped on them, then exploited for the elitists of this world. Where their big bucks pay for an illusion of pristine bliss and people of those communities are told to either pay up to use the public land in their backyards or go home. It’s time to put a stop to this until we see some actual land use planning coming from the ministry and we as members of this community can have some input towards this. Enough is enough.
