Kootenay Brain Injury Association 16.05.2021

At the end of this Volunteer Week, we extend our sincere appreciation to all of our volunteers. Those who volunteer on our Board, those who volunteer with support and therapy groups, those who volunteer by bringing food, those who volunteer by cooking food for our groups, those who volunteer rides, those who volunteer to spend meaningful time with others, those who volunteer by keeping our technology on track - we could not do it with you!

We all experience stress from time to time. Sometimes, the little things do well for relieving a bit of that stress.

EXCITING NEWS!!! We have a new website! All of the kudos go to our amazing volunteer, Jessica. Jessica took on this project and created something wonderful because she has a special interest in neuroscience. Thanks so much, Jessica, we are so grateful you chose us to volunteer with! We're still updating some areas, but we hope the site provides others with some useful information and resources. https://www.kootenaybia.ca/

We need to know what is important to you. Please take a minute to complete this short survey: (see below) https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FDKVZDH As part of the national Brain Injury Awareness Month Campaign in June, Brain Injury Canada will be developing and circulating an open letter for anyone with an interest in advocating for the brain injury community. The goal of the letter is to show a groundswell of support for important issues relevant to the brain injury community and ensures this is made known to policy makers and members across all political parties.

Today in Castlegar we had our first Music Therapy session with Jason Thomas leading our members - Covid style and all. Our members absolutely loved it! With the support of #columbiabasintrust, ICBC, Brain Injury Alliance, Teck Trail and a recent substantial local family donation, this program will continue through to January 2022! Thank you all!

The very talented Jason Thomas kicked off the KBIA Music Therapy Program today in Trail. We have a lot of people to thank for this expansion program: Brain Injury Alliance, Columbia Basin Trust, ICBC and Teck Trail.

This continues to be a very challenging year. Here’s a reminder for some self-care tips if you’re not able to attend our weekly groups right now. We hope you are all doing well

Food security, whole foods, physical exercise and mental health support are all contributors to good health. We’re so grateful to United Way Trail & District, Government of Canada and local MP Richard Cannings for fundings provided for the Healthy Food Box Program and Healthy Hearts and Minds Program
