Major Trail Funding Announcement https://news.gov.bc.ca/files/2-25-21_CERIP.pdf The BC government just announced that the KCTS has been successful in securing a $172,800 CERIP grant to complete a 7.6km trail connecting from the Seven Summits trail/ Strawberry Pass to the Larch Ridge / Biathlon area. Combined with initiatives already underway to connect Larch Ridge/Biathlon area through to Blackjack and Rossland, this will complete the vision of a "moderate" trail connection along the entire Highway 3B corridor. Planning and layout will be undertaken this summer, with construction in 2022. Exciting times.

KCTS Trail Crew Update September 4, 2020. Our youth trail crew have finished their 6 week crash course in trail-building, and have at least roughed in the entire length of the new 1.8km Gold Digger trail. We still have lots of work to do, including two major bridges and several technical trail features, but we’re aiming to have it completed by the end of the year. We finally completed the 25’ span bridge on Top Up trail across Topping creek, and we dragged huge stringers in...to place for two new bridges across Hanna Creek on the new (coming in 2021) Hanna Creek trail. We also cleared windfall from the Upper and Lower Switchback trails, from the lower (Death) section of SMD, and from Rubberhead and Cemetery trails. We do try to keep all the authorized KCTS trails clear of windfall, but we can only deal with what we know. Posting detailed trail reports (the more info the better) on Trailforks is the best place to do so. See more

KCTS Trail Crew Update August 29, 2020. It’s dry and dusty out there, so we won’t be touching the dirt on established trails until we get some moisture. We cleared remaining windfall from Tamarack, Doukhobor, and Dewdney, but are otherwise focused on new trail construction projects including the Gold Digger and Hanna Creek projects. All told we have 6 major bridges under various stages of construction at the moment. A huge shout out to Craig Upper from Porcupine Wood Products for his generous donation of a load of cedar 2 x 6 lumber, which we’ll be using for bridge decking.

Periodic Closures of Tamarack and Doukhobor Draw trails. The private landowner has informed us that their contractor will be conducting thinning, pruning and fuel management work adjacent to parts of Tamarak and the Doukhobor Draw trails between August 12 and August 25, 2020. Temporary closures will be posted, and your cooperation is appreciated.

KCTS Trail Crew Update July 31, 2020. This week the trail crew made a few adjustments to the new Dragon Tail trail, did some maintenance on Milky Way, Stardust, Full Monte, and Coffee Run, prepared for constructing some major bridges on the new Top Up trail and on the new Hanna Creek trail (which we’ll be constructing in 2021). We were also working with our new Youth trail crew, who are working hard and making great progress on the new Gold Digger trail. While it’s hot and dry on the trails most of us (our Youth crew are continuing) are taking a couple of weeks for summer vacation, so you won’t see any reports here until August 20th.

KCTS Trail Crew Update October 9th, 2020. Well that’s a wrap. The KCTS trail crew has finished up for the 2020 trail season. It’s been an exceptional year, 9 new trails, 11.4 km of new trail, multiple huge windstorms, an incredible amount of work completed, and a perfect safety record. This week we cleared trees from Spring Cleaning, Eddie J, Monte Christo Rd, and Rubberhead, replaced signs on KC, and got close to finishing the new Gold Digger and Larch Connector trails. Our contractor DIG is still planning to complete work on the new Upper COG trail before snow flies, but we’ll keep you posted.

KCTS Trail Crew Update September 11, 2020. After yet another wind event, we cleared trees from Tamarack, Whiskey on the Rocks, Cherry Poppins, Crown Point, SMDA, Moes’s, Caldera, Redtop, Redhead, Blue Elephant, Miners, Green Door, Full Monte, North Star, Louie Joe, and Bones. We also decked and started installing on and off ramps to the two new bridges across two branches of Hanna Creek on the new Hanna Creek trail, and are continuing on from what the youth crew completed on the new Gold Digger trail, hoping to get it finished by year’s end. A reminder to anyone keen to contribute, we’re scheduling a volunteer trail building day on Saturday September 26th. Check out our Facebook event for details.
