Yuh Jung Youn showed her admiration for Glenn Close at Oscar ceremony. To show the respect for these two great female actors of the same age, I expect the doubl...e feature of 'Woman of Fire' and 'Fatal Attraction.' These two films are similar to each other in terms of character structure and narrative. # #_ #___ #Woman_of_Fire_Fatal_Attraction_Double_Feature #Yuh_Jung_Youn_Glenn_Close See more

Something to think about. In the 93 years that the Oscars have been around, only four Asian women have received nominations and only ONE has won. Merle Oberon...*, 1936 nominee, Best Actress Miyoshi Umeki, 1958 WINNER, Best Supporting Rinko Kikuchi, 2007 nominee, Best Supporting Youn Yuh-jung, 2021 nominee, Best Supporting * Merle Oberon had to hide her Asian ethnicity from Hollywood to get lead roles. There are mixed race Asian American women who also received Oscar nominations: Meg Tilly*, 1986 nominee, Best Supporting Jennifer Tilly*, 1995 nominee, Best Supporting Shohreh Aghdashloo, 2003 nominee, Best Supporting Hailee Steinfeld, 2011 nominee, Best Supporting * Meg and Jennifer Tilly’s real last name is Chan. **REGISTER NOW!! "The South Korean Film Industry" International Film Studies Conference Date: 12-16 April 2021 (13-17 April in Asia) Primary Organizers:... Sangjoon Lee (NTU), Dal Yong Jin (Simon Fraser University), and CHO Junhyoung (Korean Film Archive) Host: Nam Center for Korean Studies, The University of Michigan The ACR Lab South Korean cinema provides one of the most striking case studies of non-Western cinematic success in the age of the neoliberal world order, in which Hollywood dominates the global movie consumer’s heart, mind, and soul. Against the onslaught of US products in the world’s media marketplace, South Korean cinema has successfully defended itself. The culmination was Parasite, which became the first foreign-language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars (2020). This two-day international conference will provide the first detailed scholarly overview of the South Korean film industry. Academic experts from Asia-Pacific, the UK, Europe, and North America will be invited. I have been invited to organize this academic event. University of Michigan’s Nam Center for Korean Studies hosts this conference in conjunction with the Asian Cinema Research Lab in Singapore. See more
