Virtual Art Gallery Artist: Antony Cheng (@antonychengpix) I was a competitive figure skater for 13 years and competed internationally for Canada. I have also performed on Royal Caribbean cruise ships for a year. Currently I am a dance student at Centennial College, experienced in a variety of dance styles and a coach and choreographer on the ice. I enjoy performing, teaching, photography, music and the outdoors. I hope to intertwine my two professions with figure skating... and dance in the future and positively influence as many people as I can whether it would be choreographing, performing or helping others. : This is a piece of on ice choreography I choreographed myself. "Yellow" by Coldplay was always a favourite song of mine and I believe there isn't one specific thing he is singing about or towards. Anyone who listens to this song will have a different interpretation or feeling towards the lyrics and music. And so because of this, what this song means to me is "Shared Love". It is dedicated to family, friends, coaches, teachers, anyone who has had a positive impact on me and also to myself. My choreography is a performance that reminds me where I came from, the people who have helped me along the way and how at times when we are tough on ourselves, we need to take a step back and appreciate ourselves for all that we are because sometimes the person that is their for us the most is only ourselves. The intertwining of all these connections gives the sense of shared love. I wish for everyone who sees this can feel a shared sense of calm, appreciation and love for everything they feel grateful for. #khfvirtualartgallery #khf2020 #Artist #ArtGallery #art #KoreanCulture #LoveAndPeace #korean #canadian

Virtual Art Gallery Artist: Maliki Sharma (@malikas_art) Maliki is an aspiring artist and has been creating art since 2006. She uses a variety of art mediums and is always excited to try out more. The reason why she creates art is that it allows her to dive into a world of her own, where she can freely express herself. Art to her is just like the sunrise every morning, it’s a shining new opportunity to create exactly what [she wishes] to achieve. Through these artistic... means, it also gives her a platform to speak her truth that often exceeds beyond the boundaries of words. At the end of my day, she sincerely hope that her work can inspire and bring joy to those around her. : For this piece, I have lovingly worked on, was inspired by the beauty and style of traditional Korean art, also known as minhwa. I have used natural colours and symbols of nature with the usage of present art techniques to create a painting that brings both the past and present together. The simplicity of the water colouring painting represents how it is through simple actions that we share love. Through this painting, I wanted to share the beauty and the remains of traditional Korean art. #khfvirtualartgallery #khf2020 #Artist #ArtGallery #art #KoreanCulture #LoveAndPeace #korean #canadian

Artist: Hayoung Na (@ha_young.na) Hayoung Na is a Korean-Canadian student enrolled in the York University and Sheridan College joint graphic design program. She is experienced in different mediums of visual art as well as various adobe programs used in graphic design. She strives to always do her best in her creative work and have it contain a meaningful message that she can relate to and hopefully the viewer can as well. : Title: (Korean Beauty)... As a second-generation immigrant in Canada, this makes me able to identify with both of my cultures, Korean and Canadian. However, living in Canada it was hard to view my Korean culture specifically, as many aspects such as style, tradition, and values were different. Therefore, in my piece (Korean Beauty), I decided to represent the traditional Korean culture in a way that would fit in the present time. Using a popular magazine used in Korea, this editorial piece uses an image of my own personal rendition of the original . A well known traditional painting created by (Shin Yun-bok) who is a renowned painter during the Joseon Dynasty. Additionally, Korea's national flower, (Mugunghua), is utilized in the background. All writing present in the cover is in English in hopes of spreading the traditional Korean culture into Canada. #khfvirtualartgallery #khf2020 #Artist #ArtGallery #art #KoreanCulture #LoveAndPeace #korean #canadian

Artist: Fernanda Bocanegra (@lynenickart) Fernanda is a 23 year-old Peruvian art student. She originally trained in the academic tradition of realist painting, she moved to Toronto to continue her art journey and fulfill her dream of becoming an independent illustrator. Her first time going through art school taught her a lot but she left a little disappointed having experienced that the aesthetic values she respected were not appreciated. While on break from art school, it w...as Korean culture what gave her back hope. Through it, she realized that things such as attention to detail, hard work and the pursue of excellence were still important if only in the right place. For that reason, she decided to study art in Korea but, even after a long time of language training, she wasn’t able to go. She ended up coming to Canada and, looking back, she believes it was the right match for her. Now she gets to experience the beauty of Toronto’s diversity and, whenever she needs it, she can have a little taste of Korea just around the corner. : My art is founded in the realist tradition, though lately my career is helping me develop a more stylized and graphic approach. There are a lot of traditional Korean elements in my work not only because I love the intricacy and aesthetic harmony but I also learn a lot and develop stronger concepts upon the values or stories each symbol upholds. I work a lot with the human figure and lately I’m interested in our relationship with nature; current subjects include wild animals, specially big cats, and plants. As for topics, I like to focus on everyday situations and models. Through fantastic motives, I try to return the glamour to the simple but important moments in life such as sharing a meal with your loved ones or spending quality time with your cat on a Baduk match (that the cat will win, of course). #khfvirtualartgallery #khf2020 #Artist #ArtGallery #art #KoreanCulture #LoveAndPeace #korean #canadian
