To all my students and friends during this time of studio closures and class cancellations. This is a temporary setback. Yoga is a life long practice. Treat it as such. Take the lessons that you've learned during your time on your mat to find physical and mental strength, compassion and gratitude off your mat during these trying times. Remember to be present in the moment, celebrate each of your victories, notice your breath and use it as a tool and find comfort in things tha...t bring you discomfort. Continue to practice when and where you can. For those of you wishing to begin a meditation and journaling practice, use these quiet times to begin. This is the most important time to stay healthy and sane. Reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to say hi. I miss you my friends. Hopefully see everyone again really soon. @oxygenbraeside @oxygenglenmore @yogamcc @ascensionyogayyc

My biggest challenge as a full-time yoga teacher is, believe it or not, making my own time to practice. As much as I love teaching and helping other people, I often neglect to set time aside for myself and my own practice. Sometimes following my own advice is the hardest thing to do. Honour this beautiful and fulfilling practice by allowing yourself time and space to practice. Remember what brought you to your mat in the first place so long ago. Peace. Om Shanti. #makespace... #practicedaily #selfrespect @marierayma

LOTUS Flower - Padma LOTUS Pose - Padmasana In the Eastern world, the Lotus flower is the symbol for purity, rebirth, self-regeneration and spiritual enlightenment.... It offers hope and strength to people struggling in their daily lives. It grows from the deep muddy water floor and emerges clean and perfect. I didn't know this previously, but the lotus flower submerges at night and resurfaces every day of its life cycle. No wonder that this beautiful flower symbolizes life, death and re-emergence. The lotus pose is my own symbol of re- emergence. For many years I tried this pose but was unsuccessful because of the pain in my knees. I knew that I shouldn't force myself into the pose and I came to terms that I may never be able to sit this way. Fast forward to the spring of 2020 and Covid 19 isolation. This was a time for me to revisit my own yoga practice and try new ( to me) ways to practice and open up "tight" fascial lines. One day, without practicing the pose in a long time, I was able to perform the pose first try without any knee pain on both sides. I had warmed up previously of course but without the specific intention of doing this pose. It was such a wonderful surprise. Let my personal story be an example to you that the yoga journey is a life long one, always keep an open mind and learn new things. Padmasana has the power to settle anxious energy and quiet your mind. It is great for correcting poor posture and increasing circulation in the lumbar spine. It nourishes and tones the abdominal organs, strengthens the ankles and helps maintain flexibility in the hips. BUDDHIST proverb....Living life with unwavering faith as the lotus flower does, ensures the most beautiful revival. #padmasana #lotuspose #yycyoga #yogayyc @ascensionyogayyc @oxygenbraeside
