#Repost @notlostjustdiscovering ... It wasn't until I spent more and more time in rural America that I realized just how important these points are. You see, here, I'm an oddity: very brown, usually wearing bright colors as I scamper over trails and rocks. I stick out, starkly, in a part of the world where cowboy hats and Carhartts are more standard fare. Fingers pointing, prolonged stares, and more () are part of my weekly existence in the country.... . . In mountain and adventure towns, it's easy for me to feel like I blend in: my everyday persona is (typically) easily accepted by (usually) liberal mountain towns. . . But out here, it's different. And sometime, it's scary. (Story coming tomorrow). . . What I'm realizing I need to ask my friendsincluding youto do is read this. Learn about what's going on beyond your bubble, and what you can do to help. And please, practice compassion: just because I don't talk about these things v much here doesn't mean I don't feel them or want to learn to be more open with these conversations. (I think bc I've built so much of my persona on "being strong" and "overcoming," I need to work on openly expressed vulnerability. Gulp. ) . .
