Fortress and Sherpas Cinema have long held a very special connection and we have, on numerous occasions, had the honor of working with them up at the hill. As we all enter this winter looking to explore, Sherpas Cinema has graciously opened up free access to their 2008 16mm avalanche education feature film ‘The Fine Line’ along with four accompanying training videos. Inspired by the deaths of four of their close high school classmates, The Fine Line compels viewers into the... lifelong process of learning how to move safely throughout the mountains. Please watch this film, along with the training videos, and let it be your inspiration to take further steps towards avalanche education. It’s the little steps that count!! One of the great things about rebuilding Fortress is that, as we plan and move along, we get to try things out on our existing infrastructure so we can incorporate it into our final build. One of our biggest goals is maximizing use of sustainable and renewable energies that assist in reducing our carbon footprint. All of our radio communications repeater and web cams are now completely powered by renewable ‘off grid’ sources. With these trials, we will aim to bring this into the resort on a larger scale. Big thanks to @leadingedgepower and Calgary Amateur Radio Association @caraham for getting us pointed in the right direction and sorting out the equipment that can operate in our sometimes challenging conditions!

KPow had a proper powder tester up yesterday. Jeff Chandler, programs and education director for the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors gave the conditions three thumbs up and deems it ready for our first groups of the season. If you’re not on the cat yet, get there!!
