In light of all of this freezing cold, I will be hosting another PPL Ground School in the terminal building in Lacombe. Class begins January 12 and will proceed roughly every Monday/Wednesday 1800-2200 until March 9(week by week schedules all available on request). Drop in’s are also welcome pending class size. To all interested, please shoot me a message. Class size will be rather limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, so reserve your spot today!!

Just in time for the holidays, Mr. K has successfully gone on his first solo, after working with me in his new to him PA-22 Pacer. I had told him it was going to be my Christmas present to him. As an added bonus, as another issue of Where in the world is KR Flight Instruction? who can identify which airport this green couch and Canadian Goose? I would like to wish everyone and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy New Years, from KR Flight Instruction, I can not wait to see what the new year will bring!!!
I am pleased to announce that KR Flight Instruction has partnered with Level Flight for all of my students Ground School needs. These guys are locally operated and have an amazing program to offer. Please follow this link and take a look for yourself!! https://krflightinstruction.courses.levelflight.ca/
A huge congratulations to yet again another first solo student!! Mr. K purchased his own Cherokee 140 and trusted in KR Flight Instruction to see him through to his PPL goal. He went solo in just 8 hours!! Way to go Kyle!! I look forward to continue working with you and seeing you licensed before the end of the winter!!
Coming to a city near you!! KR Flight Instruction will be quite busy in the Drumheller/Hanna area over the next several months and I’ve got plenty of room for anyone interested in a night endorsement anywhere in central/southern Alberta. Now is the time to get on a night rating as Albertan daylight is rather limited!
Recently, I’ve been asked to do some kinds of flying that instructors could only dream of. Things from helping to relocate and break in the engines of a C310, further engine break-in’s on a single Comanche and PA28, tail wheel training in a PA22 Pacer, Instrument training in an RV10, night flying, instructor ratingsthe list goes on. I can’t tell you how happy and honoured I am to be trusted to do this kind of flying. As a freelancer I strive to be the best. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and KR Flight Instruction!!
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. Not very often can I say I get to fly such an absolute gem of a plane on such a gorgeous day with such a fantastic student. Keep the shiny side up everyone!!
A huge congrats to Frans for the purchase of his new PA-22 Pacer!! We began flight training with an inaugural departure off of the newly paved and numbered runway!! Here’s to having you done your PPL in record time in an aircraft not many can say they can properly fly. Thanks for trusting in KR Flight Instruction to get your training needs done!!
After being in talks with various pilot examiners and Transport members on some pitfalls of flight training lately, it’s been pretty clear almost unanimously that proper spin training is a very big concern. That’s why I took it upon myself to ensure a flight instructor candidate of mine is taught and briefed on how to properly execute the maneuver and to hand this knowledge down to his own students once he’s licensed. I was shocked to find that instructors have been enterin...g into the spin and handing controls over to the student to recover during the duration of flight training. This not only results in the aircraft virtually recovering itself during the handoff but could also lead to confusion between the spin and spiral dive as well as potentially dangerous recovery inputs. Remember, all students must be taught how to enter and recover from a spin and to do so competently regardless if it shows up on the flight test guide. In the mean time, enjoy the video everyone!! Stay safe out there. See more
Got up to some weather a couple of days ago to do some cloud hopping while doing some CPL dual with a student. Sometimes it’s views and students like this that make you feel on top of the world. How have your weather experiences been like this past week?
Same photo’s but for a much different reason. Lucas approached KR Flight Instruction and dove all into his PPL training by purchasing a plane and hangar and kept plugging away at his license with me. I’m glad to say(Albeit a tad late. These gentlemen finished a couple of weeks ago), finished his PPL in minimal time! Additionally, the following day Mr. T wrote his PPL written exam and passed with flying colours. He’s sitting at 41.0 hours with only a mock test to complete before flight testing. He’s going to be another 45.0 hour PPL. Way to go gents!!
Well, the temps have finally warmed up, and it’s time for KR Flight Instruction to hit to the skies again. I can’t ask for a better plane to teach in than a C185 with upgraded prop, skis and avionics to shoot some IFR approaches and drop into a frozen lake now and again!!
Wingshot monday!! This photo was actually taken a few days ago, however the scenery couldn’t be any better. Who can hazard a guess as to the location?
Today was another gorgeous day of flying...in an absolute beauty of a plane to boot. Today, Captain Kurt trusted in KR Flight Instruction to complete a proper flight review and get his license current in some of Canada’s busiest airspace. Congrats on the renewed license, and onward to the IFR world!
Today was another successful day. Mr. K has been added to the ranks of first solo’s. Please help me welcome him to the ranks of official pilots!
While working through an instructor rating with a student of mine, we found this problem during the walk around. 2 questions for you, my fellow aviators. #1. Why do we always want to do a thorough walk around before each and every single flight? #2. What seems to be the problem here?
KR Flight Instruction couldn’t ask for a better way to start the year other than a new first solo student on Jan 1, 2021. Everyone, please welcome Mr. T to the ranks of pilots in the year of 2021!!
Happy new year to all of my fellow aviators out there. This year has certainly been a difficult one for a lot of us, myself included. However, I wouldn’t change any of my experiences and fun times I’ve had in 2020 for the world. Here’s to you my fellow students and followers!! May your new year bring about change memories!!!
Seasons greetings and a merry Christmas from KR Flight Instruction to all of my past, present, future, and prospective students. This year was even more spectacular than the last, and look forward to another year full of adventure and happiness. Stay safe out there everyone!!
On final approach as the day light dies out. Now is the perfect time for that night rating. Why limit yourself to 6 hours of daylight flying?
HUGE!!! Congrats to Lucas today for completing his first solo. Lucas made the best decision possible by purchasing his own aircraft and using KR Flight Instruction to ensure his dreams come true. You couldn’t wipe this smile off his face!!
After an insanely busy summer worth of flying, I am prepared to share all of my experiences with you. To start, a beautiful sunset to finish a day of tailwheel training. Training where you want it, when you want it, as you would expect it. From PPL, CPL, night ratings and everything else in between.
Another successful PPL flight test with KR Flight Instruction. Mr. D came to me late 2019, and completed his PPL in excellent time. Please help me welcome him to the ranks of licensed pilots!!
Wow!! Welcome back my fellow aviators!! KR Flight Instruction has been so busy prepping students for flight tests that I havnt been able to make a post in a while. Please help me welcome Shawn Radom to the ranks of successful PPLs who have completed their training from start to finish with me!! Remember, use a freelancer!
Nuff said!! Use a freelancer.
Went out for a rip yesterday with the wife and kids. Most people aren’t lucky enough to witness our beautiful province from the air. The kids were so excited they fell asleep before reaching our sightseeing destination...
