Supported butterfly pose. Another one of my fave restorative yoga poses!! If you don’t have 2 bolsters, you can use blankets to support under the knees. I’ve also shown you in pic 2 how you can do this pose without bolsters or blocks. In restorative yoga you aren’t looking for the deep stretching that you find in a yin class. Restorative yoga is about helping the body to feel supported enough to start to settle into deep relaxation. If you’re on the bolster, please make sur...e you’re supporting under the elbows and wrists and make sure you’re chin is lower than your forehead. No matter what, support the knees. Dirtbag hack: use books rubber banded together as a yoga block substitute . . You know what is the same length and width as a yoga block? BOOKS! Thank you @theclimbingdoctor and @rockwarriorsway for providing books with impeccable wisdom and perfect dimensions! Yoga blocks are 9 long x 6 wide x 3 or 4 thick (depending on your preference). If you are finding that your body is asking for the ground to come a little closer to you and you don’t have yoga blocks at home, I suggest finding some books and strapping them together with rubber bands. . . 1/2 Moon Pose offers a beautiful challenge for all. For repetitive, forward/ backward (sagittal plane) movers (rowers, runners, swimmers, bikers) this pose breaks us out of our movement comfort zone and may highlight weakness and imbalances as you move through a plane of movement that is less familiar. For those of us already accustomed to moving side to side, the coronal plane movers (climbers and yogis), 1/2 moon can help refine balance and finesse: - stand facing the long side of mat with arms outstretched in either direction towards the short ends of the mat - move your feet out towards the short ends of the mat until they are comfortably >shoulder width apart - Turn the toes of the front foot to face the short end of the mat. Turn make sure the outside edge of your back foot is in line with short side of the back of your mat. - Bend knee of your front leg to a level that feels good and strong and look over your front fingers (You’re now in warrior II) - From warrior II shift your weight over your front standing leg until you can offload your back leg - Keeping your back & neck active and your back leg strong and lifted, straighten your front leg as you drop your front hand to the floor or block or books! . . April is my birthday month. I decided that I would share some restorative poses with you. I feel like more than ever, this is the time to incorporate time spent in stillness and quiet. Restorative yoga is so great for helping with stress and anxiety! When I do my restorative practice I love to start with supported savasana. I like to lay my bolster across 2 blocks (see pic 1) and then use another bolster under my knees to support my back. If you’re using the bolster under you...r back, it’s best to provide support under the elbows and wrists; we’re looking to hold this pose for 5 or more minutes, so you want to be as comfortable as possible. If you don’t have bolsters, you can use a blanket or pillow under your head and knees. In pic 2 I also had a blanket underneath my back, you can try it out and see how that feels. If you have an eye pillow or a sleep mask, feel free to use it. After you get everything set up, cover yourself up with a blanket and settle in. You can spend 5-15 minutes here. I suggest giving your brain something to do-meditate on a mantra, focus on the breath... if you fall asleep, don’t worry, you’re body obviously needed the rest. #yoga #yogateacher #krisfeeneryoga #yogawithkrisfeener #yyc #yycyoga #airdrieyoga #adventure #tapas #vinyasa #restorativeyoga #yoganidra

Yoga Nidra is a really relaxing and restorative practice-especially beneficial for these crazy times we find ourselves in. In Nidra we practice breath work, relaxation techniques and guided meditation. All you need is a couple of pillows and a blanket or two. The cost is $5.
