One in five people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. Mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time through a family member, friend or colleague. By age 40, about 50% of the population will have or have had a mental illness. Men...tal illness is increasingly threatening the lives of our children; with Canada’s youth suicide rate the third highest in the industrialized world. Suicide is among the leading causes of death in 15-24 year old Canadians, second only to accidents; 4,000 people die prematurely each year by suicide. The lives of people with mental health conditions are often plagued by stigma as well as discrimination. Stigma is a reality for many people with mental illness, and they report that how others judge them is one of their greatest barriers to a complete and satisfying life. Stigma can be defined as a mark of shame, disgrace or disapproval which results in an individual being shunned or rejected by others. I want to show you that even if someone looks like they are well put together, their mind and emotions may not feel that way. I want you to see that mental illness is always hidden in some form, and there is a lot of silent people suffering. A reminder to #BeKindAlways, because you never know what someone is dealing with inside. To everyone struggling remember even on the bad days, you are NOT alone and you are NOT your illness. (location to be decided) Each person will have 20 minutes alone for single shots, and I’ll be needing everyone back for a group shot at the end. HUGE thank you to everyone for all your recommendations, I appreciate it! I have been off work due to health issues, but I am hoping to return this May 2019. I have been finally diagnosed, but sadly there’s no cure. We are hoping with the proper medication and support I can start working part time. I will be updating what services I will be offering, which I’ll make a post with all that information in the future. Thanks for all your understanding, love and support.
