We’re in uncharted territory! Fraser Valley hit two historical highs in March, setting records for both sales and new listings processed in one month since the FVREB’s inception in 1921. There were 3,329 homes sold and 5,087 new listings processed. The previous record for sales was 3,006 in March of 2016 while the previous high for new listings was 4,458 in April 2008. Single-family homes are attracting bidding wars and selling for way over asking, which has the B.C. Real Estate Association predicting 2021 sales will be on par with the halcyon days of 2016. This raises questions about whether the B.C. government’s attempts to cool the market partly through the foreign-buyers tax, and speculation and vacancy tax have failed.
