. Self practice: gratitude This is a practice I was offered during one of my reiki trainings many years ago. Looking for things to be grateful for, even in the midst of upheaval and challenges, can help to shift your perspective and raise your vibration. ... As this is a often a time of year for self reflection, this is a great time to start this practice. I fully embraced this practice about 5 years ago and it literally changed my life. I like to do this after my morning meditation but you can do it whenever you have a few minutes of quiet time. Do it daily and watch how your life changes. You will need a notebook and pen. "Today I am happy and grateful for..." It can be anything: the way your pen writes, the coffee you are drinking, the quiet moment you are having, the sun that is shining. Whatever it is for you, write that down. It may be difficult at first and that's ok. This is a practice. There is no right or wrong thing to write. There is no correct way to do this. I began with short sentences. Lists are ok, too. My writing slowly evolved into streams of consciousness filling pages and then again into poetry. Feel your way through. What connects with you? What are you grateful for? . . . Today I am happy and grateful for the unfolding of this path. For all the steps and missteps that led me to this place. For all of the ways that things have falling into alignment. For understanding that things always work out, one way or the other. For letting go of things that no longer resonate. For creating space for things that do. For all of the blessings I now have that were once only dreams. For all of the blessings that are yet to come. And for that I am truly grateful. Happy 2022

Self practice: coming back to centre Take a few minutes at the beginning of each day to sit quietly. Somewhere comfortable. Lights off. Set your timer. Close your eyes. Just yourself and your breath. Let your breath come and go. Don't try to control it. ... When thoughts arise, and they will, just draw your attention back to your breath. In and out. Rise and fall. Sometimes it's helpful to think of your thoughts as clouds... passing by.... blowing through with the wind. Notice them. Then let them go. Draw your attention back to your breath. When you are done but before you open your eyes, do a quick scan: How do I feel? Allow your eyes to open. I invite you to practice this for a week. Notice how your practice shifts day to day. Be curious about any differences throughout the week. Be aware of any resistance. And remember: this is a practice. Be gentle with yourself.

Self inquiry where is your breath? Part 2 With the awareness of where you feel your breath first: chest or belly, let's bring some balance to our breath. Let's begin by reversing our breathing tendencies.... If you are breathing into your chest first, on your next inhalation draw the breath down to your belly. If you are breathing into your belly first, on your next inhalation allow the breath to come your chest. Allow your hand to gently rise. As you exhale, allow your hand to gently fall. Inhale. Exhale. Now can we balance the breath? Can you breathe into both hands equally? Inhale and breathe into both palms equally. Exhale and allow your hands to gently fall. Repeat for a few more breaths, gently inhaling, gently exhaling. Slowly open your eyes. Notice how you feel.

Self inquiry where is your breath? Part 1 Lying down, take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes. Now place one hand on your belly and one on your upper chest.... On your next inhale, bring awareness into your hands. Which one moves first? Exhale and relax completely. Inhale, and again, notice which hand moves first? Do they both move? Observe with curiosity. Exhale. On your next inhalation, allow your hands to gently lift. As you exhale, let your hands gently fall. Relax your hands. Relax your breath. Repeat this for a few more breaths. Some of us will breathe into our belly hand first, some into our chest hand. Notice what is true in your body. You can try this at different times of day to see if there are any differences. Observe how you are feeling at the time: tired? stressed? excited? relaxed? Does that make a difference in where you breathe?
