Flu Shot Drive Up Clinics have been confirmed! We are accepting everyone for a drive-up flu shot in Southampton on November 3 and Port Elgin November 5. Both days, clinics will run 10am-12pm & 5pm-7pm. Pre-registration is recommended but not required, at this link: https://www5.apptoto.com/b/kristenspharmacy/#type. We will email you the screening form for completion/printing off at home. You can also pick up a pre-screening form at the store or request one digitally via... messenger. The Southampton Clinic will be held at the Coliseum. Please enter off Hwy 21. The Port Elgin Clinic will be held at the Plex. Please enter off Tomlinson. Please wear a tshirt and a mask. Once in place, children (5 and up) can be removed from car seats and held on parents lap. You will be required to wait in place for 15 minutes following the vaccination. How was your weekend? I woke up Saturday morning with a headache that wouldn’t quit. Because of flu shots. Because we expected replenishment orders totalling 60% of our need, starting tomorrow. Because on Friday we were told instead of the expected 60% (for me = hundreds of doses), we (all Pharmacies in Ontario) would receive only 40 doses on Monday. And only 40 doses a day for the foreseeable future. 20 senior only doses and 20 doses for everyone age 5+. My headache pers...isted into Saturday afternoon. Because I was letting people down. Because myself and staff had worked tirelessly to book patients and adjust our schedules. Because it’s COVID and we’re exhausted and the patience and kindness of some people we’ve talked to is wearing thin. On this Sunday night I’ve come up with the best plan I can to accommodate everyone, serve our community and keep people safe. Effective immediately appointments will be capped at 20/day or 40 doses. Those who are outside what we can accommodate based on our vaccine delivery will be rebooked. We are sorry to push you off. If you are our patient, we know your need and will schedule accordingly. We WILL get to everyone. It just may take longer than we hoped. If we reschedule you, we are sorry. This isn’t what we want. Trust us, the work burden is overwhelming. Regarding the planned drive up clinic - bookings are currently paused. I’ve made an urgent plea for extra doses these days but I need to make a final decision soon. Luckily I have emails for all of these patients and will contact them directly. I will have made contact with you by Wednesday of this week. Online bookings for flu shots will open again by Wednesday of this week once I’ve contacted everyone who is getting bumped from their original prebooking. I cannot thank the town of Saugeen Shores enough for their patience as we navigate this time. We have learned SO much this year, with our plan of appointments only, extra prescreening, PPE and cleaning. When/if the COVID vaccine is available from Pharmacies (hopefully) we will have our process perfected. Again, we appreciate your kindness and patience.
