So every single Tuesday we will post a different tu...rtle-related image with some facts not only about the upcoming Volkswagen of Kamloops Turtle River Race, but also ... turtles! Turtle Fact #5: While most turtles have webbed feet, some, such as the pig-nosed turtle, have true flippers, with the digits being fused into paddles and the claws being relatively small. These species swim in the same way as sea turtles do. Sea turtles are almost entirely aquatic and have flippers instead of feet. VW Turtle River Race Fact #5: Traditionally, the VW Turtle River Race has taken part on the same day as the Kamloops Children's Arts Festival. That is not possible this year, but there will be a BBQ with proceeds going to the Kamloops This Week Christmas Cheer Fund, and the Kamloops Ambassadors will be there as well. What a turtle eats will depend not only on the food available in the area it lives, but it will also depend on the type of jaw they have. Green sea turtles, for example, have a more plant-based diet and eat seagrass. This keeps seagrass from getting long and harming other marine creatures. Leatherback and hawkbill turtles feed on jellyfish, which is one of the reasons that plastic in the water is such a hazard because it looks a lot like jellyfish to a turtle. Freshwater and terrestrial turtles have a much more varied diet similar to our own ... well, if we snacked on worms, insects, water plants and algae.
