H E L P | during these times so many of our patients and clients are feeling alone. We have been pushing through for over a year and understandably the most recent announcements have hit many - hard. It’s hit our home lives, our work lives, our relationships AND our health (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual). With a record number of people online, we’d bet that comparison is too! Some of us are working, others can’t. Some of us are wondering how to pay the next bill whil...e others are thriving financially in sectors benefiting from the current situation. The divides are large and ever growing BUT please just remember that, although we must be apart physically there is no reason why we can’t join in community. We at KuRated are here, able and willing to support you. Asking for help can be hard but it’s available to you and your family through us and our network of amazing healthcare professionals @kuratedcarecollaborative See more

C O N N E C T I O N S | It’s our job at KuRated to help you make the connections. You are more than the sum of your parts and for that reason we believe it’s impossible to get to the root cause of illness by pulling people’s healthcare concerns apart and sending them off to be evaluated by a specialist without re-convening to put it all back together again. All these systems talk! Gut + Brain Adrenals + Thyroid Ovaries + Pituitary Gland... Pituitary Gland + Hypothalamus Brain + Thyroid Gut + Skin Etc...The list is long! This schematic was designed to help you better understand just a few of the ways that the gut impacts your hormones. Did you know how much your gut health can directly impact hormone recycling and production?

N U T R I T I O N I S T | This week we welcome Isla onto our team of care providers as our first nutritionist! Isla's love for holistic health started while she was working on an organic farm & garden near her hometown of Brighton. She was positively influenced to attend the Institute of Holistic Nutrition where she received her credentials as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner. Isla loves to cook fresh organic veggies from her own garden and forage for herbs to make her o...wn salves and syrups. You can find her at the beach with friends in the summer #countysunsets and staying cozy in the winter with a cup of Tulsi tea and a book. Isla is constantly keeping up with her studies, most recently she attended an Experiential Herbalism course and has her sights set on an Emotional Eating course for practitioners in the near future. To say that holistic health is her passion is a bit of an understatement, it has developed into a full blown lifestyle for her. Isla is excited to start practicing as a Holistic Nutritionist to be able to inspire others on their journey to feeling their best. @_matter.and.spirit

C A U S E S | of Endo Although the exact cause of endometriosis is not always known, possible explanations include: * Retrograde menstruation. In retrograde menstruation, menstrual blood containing endometrial cells flows back through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity instead of out of the body. These endometrial cells stick to the pelvic walls and surfaces of pelvic organs, where they grow and continue to thicken and bleed over the course of each menstrual cycl...e. * Transformation of peritoneal cells. In what's known as the "induction theory," experts propose that hormones or immune factors promote transformation of peritoneal cells cells that line the inner side of your abdomen into endometrial-like cells. * Embryonic cell transformation. Hormones such as estrogen may transform embryonic cells cells in the earliest stages of development into endometrial-like cell implants during puberty. * Surgical scar implantation. After a surgery, such as a hysterectomy or C-section, endometrial cells may attach to a surgical incision. * Endometrial cell transport. The blood vessels or tissue fluid (lymphatic) system may transport endometrial cells to other parts of the body. * Immune system disorder. A problem with the immune system may make the body unable to recognize and destroy endometrial-like tissue that's growing outside the uterus. * Gut bugs! Yesssss. Here we go again with the gut bugs. More on this in another post but here too we see a link between the gut, your hormones, inflammation and a women’s health concern. See more

S Y M P T O M S | Symptoms include (but not limited to): * Painful periods (dysmenorrhea). Pelvic pain and cramping may begin before and extend several days into a menstrual period. You may also have lower back and abdominal pain. * Pain with intercourse. Pain during or after sex is common with endometriosis. * Pain with bowel movements or urination. You're most likely to experience these symptoms during a menstrual period.... * Excessive bleeding. You may experience occasional heavy menstrual periods or bleeding between periods (intermenstrual bleeding). * Infertility. Sometimes, endometriosis is first diagnosed in those seeking treatment for infertility. * Other signs and symptoms. You may experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods. If you are managing any of these symptoms please know that while some of these are common symptoms they aren’t normal and these aren’t issues you have to live with. One of our Naturopathic Doctors would be happy to help support you.

EN-DOE-ME-TREE-O-SIS It is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus the endometrium grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis. Rarely, endometrial tissue may spread beyond pelvic organs. With endometriosis, the endometrial-like tissue acts as endometrial tissue would it thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each mens...trual cycle. But because this tissue has no way to exit your body, it becomes trapped. When endometriosis involves the ovaries, cysts called endometriomas may form. Surrounding tissue can become irritated, eventually developing scar tissue and adhesions abnormal bands of fibrous tissue that can cause pelvic tissues and organs to stick to each other. Endometriosis can cause pain sometimes severe especially during menstrual periods. Fertility problems also may develop. Fortunately, effective treatments are available.
