TODAY at 4PM! SOLIDARITY WITH ROJAVA - KOBANE DAY RALLY - YONGE DUNDAS SQUARE!

Kurdish Students' Association 28.02.2021

***TORONTO PROTEST: TOMORROW 4-6PM - DUNDAS SQUARE*** We invite you to stand in solidarity against the genocide of Kurdish people this Friday, November 1st at 4PM at Dundas Square. The recent Turkish invasion and colonial takeover of Rojava, and slaughtering of Kurdish families mark yet another step towards the genocide and colonization of Kurdish people. Now more than ever, the Kurds need allies to stand together against fascism, colonialism, patriarchy and genocide. ... For decades, the Kurds have been persecuted for their grass-roots and direct democracy, as well as feminist, anti-capitalist, non-hierarchical, socialist and egalitarian values. Kobanî is a city of resistance against colonialist militarism of the Turkish state, and also a model of direct democracy and egalitarian values in practice. Join us in celebrating Kobanî Day and standing against continued genocide. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." MLK

"With deep compassion and fortitude, On Her Shoulders chronicles the incredible journey of future Nobel Prize winner Nadia Murad, who survived the genocide of the Yazidi community in Northern Iraq. From giving testimony before the U.N. to visiting refugee camps to soul-bearing media interviews, director Alexandria Bombach follows Nadia as she navigates bureaucracy, fame and good intentions to become a relentless beacon of hope for her people."

Kurdish Film Screening - Gulistan, Land of Roses! Thursday, January 24th, 1-4PM w/ director Zayne Akyol! "They belong to the armed wing of the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which is also an active guerrilla movement. The mission of these female fighters? Defend Kurdish territory in Iraq and Syria, and defeat ISIS (the armed militants of the so-called Islamic State group), all while embodying a revolutionary ideal advocating female empowerment.... As filmmaker Zaynê Akyol follows their highly regimented lives, seasoned fighters like Rojen and Sozdar openly share with us their most intimate thoughts and dreams. Even as fighting against ISIS intensifies in the Middle East, these women bravely continue their battle against barbarism. Offering a window into this largely unknown world, Gulîstan, Land of Roses exposes the hidden face of this highly mediatized war: the female, feminist face of a revolutionary group united by a common vision of freedom."
