Part of the motivation for yesterday’s post was so I could finally brag about getting a copy of @eyeontheground. I’ve been following @jonathan.dy ever since he took a super technical and dark portrait of @adamandkev back in the day. Now I constantly pull his site up when teaching composition to my @langaracsphoto and @langaraphoto students. His Eye on the Ground series is a simple way to show how a unique approach to perspective matters. Since 2015 I’ve tried been trying to keep this feed to sets of 3 curated images/row. This has been a huge self imposed barrier for me. SO many images I consider posting get kiboshed because there aren’t 3 good ones from that shoot (or at least 3 that makes sense side by side). As a meticulous perfectionist, this approach essentially cuts me off from using this channel. Typing out the fact that it’s been 6 years now is crazy to me. To break that seal, I wanted to share this... imperfect picture that I took back in 2018. I was invited to a show at @imperialvancouver by @rocketqueen03 that featured @cloudnothings, @napeyes, and @lievancouver. A majority of time I’m at events, I’m usually doing the photography. That makes it tough to relax when attending them and not be looking for the next angle, set change, itinerary milestone etc. What I like about this photo is that I just threw my phone up above the crowd, pressed the button, took a cursory glance at the result, and put it away for the night. No more photography work guilt. This photo is more about the feeling to me than the technical shortcomings. Sure, it’s blurry but looking at brings back all the memories from that evening. I hope by breaking the streak of 3 images only I feel free-er to use this channel for those fun little thing I shoot/see that aren’t portfolio worthy photography. Look forward to an increase in posts (and of course heckling myself). Keep it messy Vancouver. P.S.
