Exciting news! Monica Carpendale, the founder and Academic Dean of KATI, has just announced the release of her new book, A Geography of Dream Work and Art Therapy, which explores the use of art as a way to make meaning from our dreams and facilitate healing. Written in response to her students' ongoing requests for a such a text, Carpendale has synthesized and mapped out a wide range of theoretical approaches to applying to art therapy to dream work. While intended as a text ...for students of art therapy, Carpendale strives for accessibility by writing from her experience in the first-person and sharing personal memories and anecdotes. According to Monica, art therapy can be an ideal tool to help clients illuminate meaning in their dreams. The visual and creative nature of art can help the conscious and unconscious to come together, allowing clients to meet the contents of their dreams in a more tangible form without losing the dreams' powerful ambiguity. Monica's interest in art therapy and dream work goes beyond academia or clinical practice. She recalls that, during her own art therapy education in 1985 with art therapy pioneer, Dr. Martin Fischer, the classes in dream work were the most significant and personally impactful part of her training. She went on to bring her passion for art therapy and dream work to the school that she founded in 1995, the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. A Geography of Dream Work and Art Therapy is published by Trafford Publishing and is available now on the Trafford website and on Amazon. https://www.trafford.com//475825-a-geography-of-dream-work https://www.amazon.ca/Geography-Dream-Work-Ar//ref=sr_1_1

The Kutenai Art Therapy Institute Association (KATIA) in Nelson, BC, is excited to announce the launch of our online Inner Compass Art Therapy Clinic! Inner Compass is an online service that matches Canadian individuals, businesses, teams, and groups with a qualified art therapist from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. While there are a growing number of options for online "talk" therapy, the non-verbal nature of art therapy can help us discover things we cannot ini...tially express with words while providing an experiential outlet for us to explore our challenges and strengths. KATIA created Inner Compass to help increase the accessibility of high-quality art therapy services at a time when the mental health needs of Canadians are greater than ever and access is limited by social distancing. Please take a moment to check out the site and assist us in making the benefits of art therapy accessible to hearts, homes, and businesses! Thank you!

Workshop in Arts-based Practice for Community Development & Social Change --- Mondays, 8:30am - 11:30am PST | March 1 - May 3 $490 before Feb 15 ($530 afterward) | Spots are limited | Pre-registration required... --- DESCRIPTION There is a growing trend toward community-based health care are expanding the scope of art therapy practice, requiring art therapists to better understand community needs, and to cultivate their unique skill sets for working in community settings (Ottemiller and Awais, 2016). Strengthening community is a global priority today. This course is intended to reinforce mutual respect by emphasizing the power of creativity and expression. Our intervention should shift the thinking process by being in the present. Issues of identity and belonging to a community (or several communities) will be touched upon, mainly through the language of art. Materials are the world, so that creating with materials is an encounter with the world. Contact with materials makes it possible to connect with, and influence, reality. We must stand above stereotypes, cultural prejudices and the imposition of various categories. We will listen with our eyes; continue to observe ourselves in relation to the diversity of the other. We will not stop learning; accept with open arms, and open mind and an open heart. We feel a deep sorrow about what is happening today in the world. Hatred, racism, intolerance, xenophobia fear of anything that is different of ourselves. So we wish to show how art as an intercultural language can bridge over misunderstandings and make a change - because art instills hope. Please note there is required reading for this course. The instructor will upload course materials for students. --- BIO Judith Siano, MA is a registered art therapist and supervisor and was in the years 2002-2017 chair of the Israeli Association of Creative and Expressive Therapies Ethics Committee. 1987-2016 Judith Siano taught at the university of Haifa and still works in her art therapy studio with, clients and therapists.
