Protect Mother Nature! Celebrate Earth Day by looking after our Mother Earth and all of creation!

Kuwahsanaha:wi 08.05.2021

We are asking youth to please come and join us in talking about education, changes needed, alliances needed and how it affects you, our families and communities. We will be having sharing circles on Saturday April 24 from 10am-11:30am hosted by Indigenous Youth Leaders. Youth participants will receive $25 for their time and energy. When it comes to our education as Indigenous people it is important that it fits our needs and traditional ways. The FNWSC advocates for Indige...nous students to have the right, power and authority to do things that fit educational needs including our traditional ways. Communication is very important when discussing what is best for the students, parents, community, and Nations when it comes to education. Building up relationships takes time, trust, work and dedication. It is important for us to create alliances where we can cooperate, communicate and work together to better our education for ourselves and future generations. The First Nations with Schools Collective is a First Nation inter-nation table supported by Band Council Resolutions (BCRs) and/or motions. The table is made up of Elders, education leaders and elected leaders tasked with the job to transform their education system. Come join us on Saturday and talk about how we can work together to improve education for ourselves and future generations. #PleaseShare #youthleaders #youthled #youthsharingcircles #education

*Please Share* Who’s in for a nine week training program to prepare for a 5k or 10K? I am encouraging people to follow the Couch-to-5K and 5K-to-10K apps (app c...ost $3.89+hst). In exactly 9 weeks from Monday (April 19, 2021) will be National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21, 2021). I will organize a 5K & 10K virtual run with the hopes to make it in person locally in London, On, (pending what restrictions will allow). There are a lot of things to work out, including partners, but I want to get this started and give people a chance to get in a full 9 weeks of training. I am encouraging people to follow the two apps, but they can follow any program that best suits them. The reason I am suggesting these two apps is because these are the apps I used to complete my first 5K and 10K. I will do this as part of the Indigenous Running Club and through my role as the N’Amerind Urban Aboriginal Healthy Living Program Coordinator so I will ask people to register with the program. I will be able to provide support and guidance as I share my experiences. Plus I will do giveaways to keep people motivated. Connect with me via email [email protected] and to register. Running has been a passion of mine since March 2016 after starting my own health journey in October 2015. Since then I have gone on to complete my first 5K (running) in June 2016, first 10K in September 2016, first half marathon in March 2017 and my first marathon in October 2018. Since beginning my journey I have lost over 165lbs, completed three marathons and continue to improve as a runner. I am not a certified coach but I look forward to giving back the best I can and share through my own experiences. I will go live in the N’Amerind Healthy Living group Facebook page on Monday to kick off the program. Until then join the group, download the app and prepare to start your training program next week with the goal of doing three trainings runs. I will post the apps in the comments and look forward to working with everyone over the next nine weeks. Please share with your family & friends and let’s do this! Note: Current Ontario public health measures and advice allow outdoor exercise or walking your pets in your community.

Listening and learn from Mother Nature. Change is here and more is coming. Change can be scary, difficult and confusing at times. Change is a process and it takes time and can get messy. But once the change happens, things seem to work out. Change is a process. Remind yourself that this process will bring some good and bring what you have been wanting or praying for. So when you see things changing know that it’s happening for bigger things to grow. ... Grow through what you go through and embrace the change.

How do you manage your time? Doing your best doesn’t mean to work yourself to the point of a mental break down. Because when you push yourself to hard you are forced to take time off. It’s a natural reaction to feel stressed, confused, frustrated or angry during difficult times. Remember you are spiritual being living a human experience. It is natural to have emotions during difficult times. Be patient and kind to yourself. ... Talking to people you can trust can help. Don’t hold that in, it will do more damage to your mind, body, spirit and relationship with self and others and all of creation. Take care of yourself! You matter and you are so important.

Friendly reminder! Be mindful of your time and how you are spending your time. Some times when we are really stressed out it’s because we have a lot going on and not enough time. Because we are so busy we might be neglecting self-care. Make time to make time. Sit down and reflect on where you are putting your energy. Getting on a schedule can be difficult but so rewarding when we keep trying. This is one of the topics that I covered with the Youth today in our Innovative Youth Leadership & Wellness Training. It’s sad that my peers and I, the youth of yesterday were never taught this kind of stuff and given space to talk about what mental health and anxiety is. We would have realized that we were not alone. I wanted to share with those who need it. Hope this helps in some way even if it’s just a friendly reminder that you are important. #mentalhealth #anxiety #triggers #copingskills #positiveselftalk #love #loveyourself #life #takecareofyourself

When we make mistakes or face challenges in life, learn from the lessons happening. If we continue to make the same mistake we are missing something. Be kind to yourself and do the self reflection and self work so you can find the truth and break free from that feeling of being a prisoner of your past. Never be a prisoner of your past, it was a lesson, not a life sentence. #bekind #bekindtoyourself #dontbeaprisonerofyourpast #lifelessons #breakfree #love #happy #smile #life #motivation #inspiration #happiness #quotes #people

Practice Patience. The best way to practice patience is to make yourself wait. Waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. Start with something small like waiting a few extra minutes to drink that and then move on to something bigger. You will begin to gain more patience as you practice. Stop Doing Things That Aren't Important Right Now! We all have things in our lives that take time away from what is important to us, leaving us stressed. A good way to d...estress from our lives is to stop doing those things. Take a few minutes and evaluate your week. Look at your schedule from when you wake up to the time you go to sleep. Take out two or three things that you do that aren't important or necessary. It's time to learn to say no to things that cause stress and make us impatient. Be Mindful of the Things Making You Impatient. Some if not most people have several tasks running through their head, jumping from one thought to another without taking the time to finish one task first. Be mindful of your thoughts and the best way to understand this is to write them down and sort them. This will help you slow down, prioritize and focus on one task at a time and remove those things that stress you out. Take a Minute and Take Deep Breaths. Taking a minute to take some slow deep breaths can help calm the mind and body. Breathe in counting to four, hold it counting to four and then slowly breathe out for 4 seconds. Make yourself a priority once in a while. It’s not selfish, it’s necessary! Be patient with yourself! Be kind to yourself! You are doing the best you can and that is good enough! #patience #kindnessmatters #mindbodysoul #priorities #prioritizeyourself #bemindfulofyourthoughts #bemindfulofyourmentalhealth #mentalhealth #breathe

Take it one step at a time and believe in yourself and trust that you will know what you need to do and how you will need to do it. You will be provided with what you need. So take care of yourself, stay positive, be mindful of how your are treating and talking to yourself! Change takes actions, achievements and failures. Stay grounded and humble. Take it one step at a time and embrace the learning and growing journey. #breathe #grounding #moveforward #onestepatatime #takecareofyourself #takeaction #healingjourney #learningjourney #yougotthis #youcandoit #people
