The new climate legislation from the gov't fails on multiple fronts to move Canada to net-zero emissions and capitalize on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity fo...r a post-pandemic green recovery. This not what we expected, this is not what we need. What we needed was a plan. This Bill has no plan to increase our existing 30% GHG emissions reduction target for at least another year & there is no commitment that the new target will correspond to science. This is an empty shell. It provides little new accountability and puts us out of step with our int'l partners. It fails to grasp the once-in-a-lifetime chance to move to a green economy. This compromises our future competitiveness and doesn't live up to our int'l obligations. The Green Party’s economic recovery plan calls for a 60% reduction in emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 with clear enforceable targets and timelines, starting in 2025. Priority actions include: -A detailed Carbon Budget setting out GHG emissions allowed to keep within the 1.5C threshold. -A Carbon Border Adjustment a tariff on imports from jurisdictions with weak climate policies -Investments in renewable energy and cleantech. -Deep energy retrofits of building -Annual increases in the carbon tax -A national electricity corridor allowing 100 per cent renewable energy to flow across provincial and territorial borders. Le projet de loi n'est pas prévu d'actualiser notre objectif actuel de 30 % et il n'y a pas d'engagement que le nouvel objectif sera conforme aux recommandations de la communauté scientifique. Le projet de loi que le gouvernement a déposé est une coquille vide. Il ne prévoit que peu de responsabilité et nous met en décalage avec nos partenaires internationaux. Nous compromettons notre compétitivité future tout en ne respectant pas nos obligations internationales. Le plan de relance économique du Parti vert prévoit une réduction de 60 % des émissions par rapport aux niveaux de 2005 d'ici 2030 avec des objectifs et des délais clairs et applicables à partir de 2025. Parmi les actions prioritaires, citons : -Un budget carbone détaillé définissant les émissions de GES autorisées à rester dans les limites du seuil de 1,5 degré C. -Un ajustement frontalier concernant le carbone - un tarif sur les importations en provenance de juridictions ayant des politiques climatiques faibles -Investissements dans les énergies renouvelables et les technologies propres. -Rénovation énergétique approfondie des bâtiments. -Augmentations annuelles de la taxe sur le carbone. -Un corridor électrique national permettant à 100 % d'énergie renouvelable de traverser les frontières provinciales et territoriales.
