Happy Wellness Wednesday & Happy Adminstrative Professionals day to our AWESOME team!
This week on Wellness Wednesday, we are exploring vulnerability. Vulnerability is defined as the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. Reading this definition helps us understand why there is sometimes so much anxiety behind opening up to someone emotionally. Vulnerability’s flip side is connection; as Gabor Mate alludes to, without vulnerability, we cannot connect with others. How do we work on... vulnerability, when working on it requires us to step out and be exposed? Baby steps. Start with small goals related to vulnerability - maybe this means setting a time to make that phone call you’ve been putting off, or reaching out to someone via email/messenger because it’s a bit easier for you than having an in person conversation. It’s okay to take small steps, as these small steps add up to leaps and bounds over time. Vulnerability takes courage, be kind to yourself with each baby step you take.
The Canadian Mental Health Association of NB is offering programming specifically for seniors. If you or someone you know is interested in any of the offerings listed, make sure to register in advance.
It's Wellness Wednesday! This week we are highlighting couples. There are several different theoretical standpoints in approaching couples therapy. One of the most widely used and well researched approaches is Emotionally Focused Therapy; a type of therapy developed by Les Greenberg and Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980s. Being socially isolated certainly takes its toll in all areas of life. This article by Dr. Sue Johnson delves into the difficulties couples may face due to the isolation of COVID-19. We are lucky to have several clinician's who offer couples therapy at our clinic, don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you and your partner can relate to this article.
It's Wellness Wednesday! Anxiety is sometimes referred to as the crisis of our era. What if we changed the way we view anxiety? Could that change in perspective really have an impact? This article explores these questions and more. As always, our team is here to help you with any anxiety concerns you may have. We offer a variety of treatment approaches. https://www.psychologytoday.com//we-dont-have-be-anxious-a
This week on Wellness Wednesday, we wanted to highlight grief. Grief is a universal experience. We feel this quote captures the grief experience quite well. Along with our trained clinicians, we are so grateful to have Compassionate Grief Centre in our region as a resource for anyone experiencing grief. They have a few fundraisers happening right now and we wanted to help spread the word. Check out their page to learn how to participate in their 50/50 draw and Chase The Ace event!

Have you ever wondered about Neuroplasticity? Check out this video! Therapy and Neurofeedback both rely on this principle to facilitate change in the brain, which of course helps us facilitate change in our daily life. When we can alter our neural pathways, the impacts are far reaching. Reach out to us to learn more about our therapy options or for a free NeurOptimal consultation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELpfYCZa87g

Ever feel like you’ve missed the mark in supporting someone you care about or perhaps felt under-supported yourself? There is a big difference between empathy and sympathy. Dr. Brené Brown does a wonderful job explaining the differences between the two in this short animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw&t=8s
Starting today, we are going to be doing Wellness Wednesdays! Each week, keep an eye out as we will post an article, video or helpful tidbit about all things wellness related, including services we offer. Insomnia. A word many of us know all too well; in fact, it's estimated that 25% of adult Canadians are dissatisfied with their sleep and up to 10% may meet criteria for an insomnia disorder (Statistics Canada, 2018). The article below prompted us to share what types of s...ervices we offer that can help with sleep issues. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Insomnia (CBT-I) is a short term, structured form of therapy aimed at confronting insomnia specifically. As the article below mentions, you will learn skills and strategies to build a healthier relationship with sleep. NeurOptimal is an excellent tool to use alongside CBT-I or on its own, as it aids in calming our nervous system; making it easier to calm the mind and work on specific therapeutic skills and strategies. Not only are CBT-I and NeurOptimal evidence based therapies, we have heard first hand how effective these services have been for our clients plagued by sleep troubles. As mentioned in the article from CBC, the study is still open to individuals 65 and older to participate, please read the article to learn more about this study and to see if you, or someone you know may be eligible to participate. It’s a wonderful opportunity! https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5910922?__twitter_impression=true
