I have had dozens of people inquire about the current project I am working on, wondering why the lattace is under the wooden shingles of the house. The lattace provides and air space behind the wood singing allowing the back side of it to evaporate any moisture off to the air. This air space is key to preventing rot of the sheathing or siding and will allow any paint or stain applied to the siding to last much longer. This has been a recommended practice for years, but has only become a code requirement in the past few years, and applies to any natural wood siding product.
