This is a wonderful new initiative to help Indigenous content creators share and tell their stories in British Columbia. Supported privately by Rogers Group of Funds, and administered by Creative BC, the Fund is Canada’s first provincial-national partnership focused on Indigenous creators. Creative BC will be administering this new $1 million dollar fund and is also in the process of hiring an Indigenous Lead and Program Analyst to manage this project. #IndigenousBC, #creativebc

A phenomenal day today, Luka helped show Kwikwetlem First Nation Councillors George Chaffee and John Peters as well as the First Nation's Project Coordinator - ...Referrals & Stewardship Cassandra Harper the wonders of Stoney Creek and its spawning salmon. Highlight of the day - one pool had eleven visible coho salmon, which is unheard of during daylight hours at 11am. The quickly swimming coho made the creek pool redish - to understand the significance google the meaning of Kwikwetlem. We believe it was a special welcome to the Kwikwetlem First Nation. Many great things to come. Stoney Creek Environment Committee, Mossom Creek, Pacific Streamkeepers Federation

Today marks a special day for kikm First Nation as we bear witness to the opening of the Red Fish healing centre on our ancestral, traditional and unceded lands located at smiqwel, said Chief Ed Hall, kikm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation. We are proud to have our language, culture and healing practices incorporated throughout the centre, from the addition of our name in hanqminm (qi wnq lelm) to the use of traditional healing practices such as smudging and the powerful display of the House Post at the entrance to the centre," he added. In partnership with Kwikwetlem First Nation we were joined by Chief Ed Hall and Brad West, Port Coquitlam Mayor for a blessing and smudging ceremony of all of t...he memorabilia items left at the cenotaph in Veterans Park in recognition of the tragic history of residential schools. Photos have been taken of the items and a webpage will be created by Kwikwetlem First Nations, BC Housing and the City to be viewed online. After today's ceremony all of the items will be cleaned and the City will work with Kwikwetlem First Nations on its storage. Thank you to Chief Ed Hall for joining us and including us in this beautiful ceremony today.

Exciting News for the Kwikwetlem First Nation! We signed an agreement with the Province of BC regarding the official renaming of Riverview to smiqwel. This name in our traditional hnqminm language means Place of the Great Blue Heron.' This is a historic milestone for our people and nation. smiqwel forms a key part of our core territory.

kikm (Kwikwetlem First Nation) and BC Housing have begun the public Master Planning phase of smiqel (Suh-MEE-kwuh-EL-uh), recognizing the historical... and cultural ties to their ancestral land. smiqel means ‘The Place of the Great Blue Heron’ in the traditional hnqminm language. The land was once widely used as roosting ground for the great blue heron along the floodplain of the Coquitlam River. This redevelopment project will include engagement with the public and key stakeholders in 2021. The kikm Nation will also conduct an extensive community engagement with its membership. The feedback will be incorporated into smiqwel’s master plan. DETAILS: www.bchousing.org/news?newsId=1479156844424 Visit www.sumiqwuelu.com to learn more.
