Happy Monday!! GREAT NEWS for those who live and visit Quispamsis and Kings Way Care Centre - THE ROUNDABOUT IS OPEN THIS MORNING This is going to make pulling out of Squire Drive much easier at busy traffic times!... As I drove around it this morning taking my son to school, I thought it may be a good time to remind everyone of the rules of a roundabout - I mean I have seen some of you trying to navigate them around the valley and some of you could use some pointers Here are some tips from the GNB website to help you drive safe and prevent accidents: How to drive in a single lane roundabout: A roundabout is a circular intersection in which vehicles drive counter clockwise around a central island. Vehicles entering the roundabout yield to vehicles already in the circle, then enter the roundabout and exit at their desired roadway. As you approach a roundabout, reduce your speed, check for signage, watch for pedestrians and be prepared to stop. Yield the right-of-way to vehicles already in the roundabout which will be approaching immediately from the left. The vehicles already in the roundabout have the right-of-way, so you may have to stop. When there is a sufficient opening in the traffic, enter into the roundabout to your right, and drive counter clockwise. Once you are in the roundabout, follow the steady flow of traffic. You cannot pass another vehicle or stop in the roundabout unless it is necessary to avoid an accident. If you miss your exit, you can do an extra trip around the traffic circle in order to get another opportunity to exit the intersection. Always use your signal light as you leave the roundabout, check for pedestrians at the crosswalks and be prepared to stop. KEY POINTS: If entering - you must yield to those in the circle already You have the right of way if you are in the circle Use your indicator (blinker) when exiting the circle Drive safe and enjoy the circle!

Some Highlights from this week. We reminisced, we remembered, and we thanked our veterans
Remembering our Veterans and the sacrifices they made for us all, and preparing Christmas cards to send to our troops overseas
Honouring all veterans but especially our veterans at both Kennebec Manor And Kings Way this morning Remembrance Day will be recognized virtually in most cities and towns this year as Covid impacts any gatherings. Please see in the comments for a link for events in NB. Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have... served in the nation’s defence. Armistice Day Armistice Day was inaugurated in 1919 throughout much of the British Empire, but on the second Monday in November. In 1921, the Canadian Parliament passed an Armistice Day bill to observe ceremonies on the first Monday in the week of 11 November, but this combined the event with the Thanksgiving Day holiday. For much of the 1920s, Canadians observed the date with little public demonstration. Veterans and their families gathered in churches and around local memorials, but observances involved few other Canadians. In 1928, some prominent citizens, many of them veterans, pushed for greater recognition and to separate the remembrance of wartime sacrifice from the Thanksgiving holiday. In 1931, the federal government decreed that the newly named Remembrance Day would be observed on 11 November and moved Thanksgiving Day to a different date. Remembrance Day would emphasize the memory of fallen soldiers instead of the political and military events leading to victory in the First World War. 11 November Remembrance Day rejuvenated interest in recalling the war and military sacrifice, attracting thousands to ceremonies in cities large and small across the country. It remained a day to honour the fallen, but traditional services also witnessed occasional calls to remember the horror of war and to embrace peace. Remembrance Day ceremonies were usually held at community cenotaphs and war memorials, or sometimes at schools or in other public places. Two minutes of silence, the playing of the Last Post, the recitation of In Flanders Fields, and the wearing of poppies quickly became associated with the ceremony. Remembrance Day has since gone through periods of intense observation and periodic decline. The 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 1995 marked a noticeable upsurge of public interest, which has not ebbed in recent years. It is now a national holiday for federal and many provincial government workers, and the largest ceremonies are attended in major cities by tens of thousands. The ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa is nationally televised, while most media outlets including newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, and internet sources run special features, interviews, or investigative reports on military history or remembrance-related themes ~ warmuseum.ca

Monday wellness tip- Try to add some focused breathing into your daily routine. There are many mobile apps or youtube videos that can help you get started. But to begin, try breathing in slowly for 4 seconds and breathing out for 4 seconds. Counting the seconds helps to keep your mind from wandering and may bring you some relaxation.

FRIDAY UPDATE Hello everyone!! Hoping that this email finds all of our Kennebec and Kings Way families well and enjoying this beautiful summer we have had!! As some of you may already be aware, family visitation at the homes is changing. We will now be able to offer a Designated Caregiver visitation starting next Wednesday at both homes. Public Health and Provincial Guidelines have outlined that each resident can designate 2 family members as support to assist... in maintaining their loved ones mental and physical health ( these 2 designated persons must remain the same and cannot change from visit to visit). The home will have designated visitation times for the support person of 11am-1pm and 4pm-6pm. Visits can be up to 2 hours in length. Visitation continues to be by appointment only, and visits will take place in the residents room. Each support person will be educated in mask and hand hygiene and any other safety visiting practices the home deem necessary. We will once again be communicating with the sponsor only to set up this new type of visit in the next few days. Please remember that we cannot take calls from other family members asking to have a visit also. The family must arrange for who will be visiting their loved one with the sponsor. In order for us to roll this visitation schedule out, all indoor/outdoor visits will pause until we can get an idea of how effective this new process will be We would appreciate any feedback or ideas that families may have. If you could please email the Directors of Care with your comments: [email protected] and [email protected] Have a great long weekend!!!

TUESDAY, JULY 28, 2020 UPDATE Good Afternoon! We are happy to share with you a few changes to the visitation guidelines in Phase 2 of the visits with your loved onesSTARTING THIS WEEK... PHASE 2 CHANGES: INDOOR visits can now have 2 visitors and those 2 visitors DO NOT NEED TO BE THE SAME PEOPLE EACH TIME. The number of visits at the homes each day have also been increased and we are working to add visits to a manageable number. All previous infection control restrictions remain in place and the process for visits is unchanged (ie., must wear masks, physical distancing still required, visits are by appt only, screening questions upon arrival, inside visits require temp checks , only 2 visitors per visit, etc). It is very important to be mindful of your visit times Please show up for your visit a few minutes before the set time to ensure your visit can start on time. Also it is important to end the visit after 20 minutes to allow for proper disinfecting of the area and to prepare for the next family visit. CHECK THE DATE! If you are unsure if that day is the right day for the visit - please call and double check your day and time. Thank you all for your continued show of support, appreciation, and patience as we all continue to navigate these unchartered waters of COVID-19 together. Stay safe and stay hydrated this week with the current heat advisories!! Hugs to you!
